New Security Measures for MK Guests; UPDATES: Page 12 - Post 222; Live Reports - Pgs. 18-20

I think we are waiting for @yulilin3 to take one for the team again ;)
I'm going to MK Wednesday so I will report back for sure :)

It would be about 2 miles. Probably take less time to go through additional security points.
It's actually just a mile from the GF to the TTC, easy 20 minute walk but while on vacation I can understand when people don't want to do the extra walking

Not be be argumentative, but I have walked it several times - no way it is a mile (though probably less than 2), and no way it only takes 20 minutes. Look at the jogging path between the two resorts. That is a mile and is starts at the front of the GF main building and wouldn't get you to the TTC edge of the Poly property, much less all the way onto one of the modes of transportation at the TTC. I would budget at least 30 minutes if you are fit, and eliminate it as an option if you are not.

I'm not saying people should walk it, I was pointing out that you can walk it if you want to, the only resort where you cannot walk to the TTC is the Contemporary

We are going to Chef mickeys- to return to POR we are thinking to walk to the MK to take a bus, not go into the park. Would we have to go thru security to do this?
People have posted that there is now a checkpoint on the walkway to MK from CR.

Having made that walk several times (pre-new-security), depending on the time of day, I have to believe it won't be a huge hold-up. I've been on that walkway a lot during morning hours - which I imagine would be one of the busiest - and it's not real crowded.

If you wanted to stay outside the security bubble (your reasons are your own business:rolleyes1), you could take a bus from CR to MK (or Epcot) and then get another bus to POR.

Sorry maybe I missed it in the posts if this has been asked, but is everyone now going through the metal detectors?

I would expect DTD/DS to be added. Security coming out of the garages, bus areas, crosswalks.
I don't know about that. Disney Springs is huge. You have multiple different walking paths into the Springs, bus drop off areas, third party drop off areas, Two big parking garages, and several other parking lots. That would be a ton of staffing.

Thank you for the link @yulilin3! It looks like Disney is working on improving their procedures and I'm looking forward to seeing how this works out and what else might be done. FWIW, the absolute worst security areas I have seen have been at DHS and AK (which was actually scary with dogs, patrols and all).

Arriving on 4/8 staying at POR and have own car. Sounds like my plan should be drive to HS, AK, and Epcot but take the bus to MK. What do all my always helpful Disboard friends think?

Seems to me that it is more convenient for Disney to leave all MK security at MK. By decentralizing it, they likely need a net addition to security people. Did Disney say why they are doing this? I'd have thought it was to make park opening/busy time go more smoothly- same for the new opening procedure at MK.

These new procedures are in line with the Security procedures that began in DLParis after the terrorist attacks in Paris. The only thing that is different is that DLP has metal detectors and x-ray machines in each onsite hotel. All incoming guests are screened and their luggage is sent though the x-ray machine. Guests are still screened when they exit the hotel and enter the Village - their DTD - and from there they proceed to the two parks.

DLR began their new Security procedures in December '16. Guests are screened before they enter DTD or the Esplanade and then they enter the parks.

This procedure which has had good results at the above named parks lessens the backlog of guests at MK's entrance.

Are the boats/monorail running once security opens or does it still depend on day/park time opening? Just curious if there will be a 2nd line after going through security waiting for transportation from TTC to MK.

Went thru today at the TTC and it went much smoother than I expected. No long wait either time we went thru, if you go thru bag check you only go thru the metal detectors if you are selected. Not sure if they will change this at some point. It actually made it shorter to go from the monorail into MK as you go left now once you get to the bottom of the ramp, at least in the morning. In the afternoon we had to go thru the old path into the middle where the security screening used to be. I have no complaints, other than the goober trying to sneak in a beer at 8:30 a.m. holding up the line lol.

That's exactly what we have always done when we have a car and are onsite. :)

So is the ferry boat bag check and the TTC monorail bag check one in the same or have I over looked something?

Security probably does go smoother at TTC because it's not getting periodic big dumps of guests from loaded ferrys and monorails... and bus traffic is a different checkpoint.

It would make me very happy if I could walk from the monorail ramp into the park, like it used to be.
