New Security Measures for MK Guests; UPDATES: Page 12 - Post 222; Live Reports - Pgs. 18-20

I personally think security going thru everyone's bags and them making you open every zippered pouch and jabbing a stick or flashlight into your personal belongings is beyond offensive. Women sometimes have feminine products or people have other personal items and it's ridiculous that a billion dollar company has this kind of "security". Pushing some dirty stick into my private belongings is really unacceptable.

:thumbsup2:thumbsup2 Exactly!

WDW has bus loads of guests arriving at a time - Universal has none of that. The trickle-in of Universal makes it much easier to handle bags going through an xray machine. Think of the back-up in security at the airports, and that will be what WDW will look like when buses of people arrive all at once

Yes, true BUT, you can't really compare people going into WDW with people going into the airport where everyone has carry-ons, computers, they have to take their shoes off. Most people who even decide to carry something, it's usually just a small bag. If you think about the grey bins going thru security, they are FULL all the time with all the stuff people are bringing onto the airplanes, this would be very different from people entering Disney parks. I think Disney needs to step up to the plate and buy the proper screening x-ray machines and buy enough of them. With Disney, everything is about the $$$. Let's face it, it's a lot cheaper to give a security guard $8/hr to push a stick and look into your bags.

Lots of places have this type of security. Ever been to a professional sporting event? Same thing. Disney is pretty liberal with what it allows into the parks. I just found out that my favorite pro MLB team is banning backpacks because of the length of time it takes to search all of the pockets. They're only allowing tote bags, cinch bags, and other similar bags with just 1 compartment to search, and there are a lot of people very unhappy about it (particularly those with small kids).

If you don't like the type of security Disney has, what would you recommend instead?

And...are you really that concerned about a guy seeing a pad or tampon in your bag? I can all buy guarantee that a) all men are aware that women use these products and b) couldn't care less that they're in your bag. I highly doubt the security guys are judgy about what's in people's bags. They've seen it all. And if you ran into one of them later in the day, I'm sure he wouldn't be able to identify you as "that lady who had a tampon in her bag."

A dirty stick? LOL...That "dirty stick" is the absolute least of your dirt/germ concerns at WDW or anywhere else. Germy, filthy handrails. Disgusting ride vehicle floors and seats. Kids wiping snot-noses and touching everything, coughing and sneezing on you. Come on now.

The invasion of privacy is a separate issue. I can see how one could find it to be too much. Unfortunately you don't have a choice if you want to visit the parks.

Should we be ashamed we are carrying tampons or something?

Does Disney check scooters, strollers, and wheelchairs with the same scrutiny that they check bags?

ALSO, when people get off the ferry or monorail (and have already been pre-screened), how are they going to keep this group together and separated from the bus people who have not been screened? It's not like when you get off the ferry or monorail, the MK entrance is right there?

The entrance plaza is so wide that it will be easy to keep the stream of bus riders coming from the far right separate from the monorail riders coming from far left and ferry riders coming from the middle via placement of barriers. When we were there March 13-19 they had already opened bag check stations on the far right and were directing bus riders there, instead of making them walk down the incline by the waterfront and then back up the center for bag check. I don't think they'll have any trouble at all keeping the various streams of arrivals separate.

I'm going to assume Disney knows more about it's own security needs, construction capabilities, and manpower than you or I and how things will/won't work, as well as the ability/costs of "building properly". If the set-up at Universal would work for Disney, I don't see why they wouldn't implement it. Therefore, I must conclude that there is a valid reason they don't do it that way ("to annoy their guests" is not a valid reason). I have no idea what that reason is, but whatever it is, it's valid enough for them to look for alternate ideas, which they are doing.

Then again, I honestly haven't had any issues with security. Haven't found it to be a nuisance, or to slow us down. Do I think it could be improved? Sure...and clearly, so does Disney.

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ is the usual reason for everything

They check every pocket and bin of strollers!

They are supposed to .................

I've been where they check every nook of my bag, and I've been where they picked it up and handed it back to me.

I've watched them basically dump multiple bags off a stroller on the table, and when they've glanced briefly and waived them in. I honestly have never seen them inspect a stroller .. only the bags.

After it becoming the family joke that I was picked to scan probably 9 times out of 10, I observed and figured out how to avoid. I now have avoided getting picked and on our last trip wasn't chosen once at the "random" locations.

I don't believe the Disney method of poke and prod is best, good grief in January I couldn't believe all the selfie sticks that were in the parks ... something they clearly should have seen. Now to de-centralize creating even more gaps .... we'll see but I will go feeling much less safe but oh hey the MK will look prettier ......

It all depends on who's working the table that day. We don't use a stroller/scooter/wheelchair at Disney, but I've been behind people that do. Some are checked thoroughly and others are given a quick glance and that is it. The same goes for bag checks. My purse has multiple pockets and I always unzip all of them for bag check. Some look in every open pocket and some glance in one and hand it back.

Was it ticking?

Actually throwers don't worry about ticking because modern bombs don't tick

Sorry, throwers?

Baggage handlers. But when a suitcase vibrates the throwers gotta call the police

My suitcase was vibrating?

Nine out of ten times it's an electric razor but every once in a while...

(apparently the disboards edit's out some shall we say 'mature content' but any of you who seen Fight Club know what I'm talking about)

Wow really? They could just switch to clear bag policy like every major sporting event. Talk about fun having your bag contents on display!

I was looking at pictures of the crowds at the TTC in the mornings for park opening...yowza!

I think I'll have to rethink how I will get to Epcot for rope drop. We were going to walk to TTC from Polynesian, but there's no way I want to stand in the line for security for MK with everyone else at TTC first thing in the morning when we are headed to Epcot. Later in the day, no big deal.

Hmm, so either go through the security at Poly monorail and then - I think - we can just walk from resort monorail over to the monorail to Epcot at TTC? Or will we still be shuttled through the TTC security? I'm so confused - looking forward to reports!

Or Uber. :)

Get X-ray machines and stop making me open my personal bags. Yes, I don't want someone putting some dirty stick into my bag. There is a better way.

Maybe you are good with someone opening your personal items and putting some stupid stick in it. I am not. Get x-ray machines, the only thing they have to look for is a knife or gun, easy. Airport, they have to look for liquids etc. X-ray machines solve the problem.

Or they can get x-ray machines and not open anyones bags. Not rocket science!!!

NO women should not be ashamed of tampons, I was just using this as an example. Jeeesh. I was thinking of my daughter that just became a teenager and know she would be uncomfortable. I guess someone with no female teenagers wouldn't understand this. Why does everyone need to attack on these boards? Just because something might not make you uncomfortable, might make someone else uncomfortable. Remember, everyone is different.

You don't need to preach to me on if I am uncomfortable with someone seeing a tampon in my bags. Please see my comments above and try to remember that everyone is different and what might make you uncomfortable, might not make other people uncomfortable.
