New Security Entrance

I do want to say its funny that at least for me, if I go to the other security areas the lines are normally short while the hotel guests for the Disneyland Hotel and Pixar one have to wait...and not just wait right now wait int he hot sun with little to no shade.

I think Disney should do something about this but until hotel guests make a fuss, I bet nothing changes

It is going to be annoying having to tromp all the way to the end of the line if you're coming from PP as I will be. Is there really not a line entry from that side?

On 7/28 when we exited to eat dinner at the DLH we could not believe how long the line was for security! I would not be thrilled paying that much for a room and waiting in a crazy line like that. I realize it’s temporary until the sorcerer hat entrance reopens. But it looked like a chaotic mess. Luckily, by the time we left the lines were much much shorter.

Is #3 the new security location? Someone mentioned which direction to line up, but I can’t find that post. Is the line towards #2 or towards the bottom of your picture? Thanks
That was me.

As others have confirmed, #3 (post #116) is the new location. In the morning before security actually opens, the line begins #3. It's on the main walkway (like where the top and bottom "points" of the 3 are on the map on post 116 and goes towards #2 (near the old security entrance where the hat is). The actual security checkpoint is that little comb-looking structure where the rest of the 3 is. So when they open that up, everybody who's lined up on the walkway makes a left into that area and disperses into those lanes. The picture in post #123 above is after they've opened security and the line has already taken the left there.

The people who were lined up in the wrong spot were lined up the other way. They were standing on the other side of the entrance to the security area towards the parking lot/roundabout (where the cacti are in post #123). Honestly, it looked to me like they should have known not to line up there as a line had already formed going the other way when they walked up. There were also some people who tried to go into the actual security area before it opened (it's not closed off), who had to go to the back of the line.

It's not as complicated as it's sounding here. As long as you get there after about 6:10 am (park opening at 8), just get in the line that will already be there.

People keep talking about a designated hotel entrance. I'm not sure if that is a rumor or if it came from a reliable source. If it happens, that would mean three entrances at that end of DTD (see pic below).

Since they only have half of the security lines open at the new entrance, I don't know why they would build something new rather than opening additional lanes at the new entrance. They could easily make the far left for DLH and the far right for PP and the middle for anyone else.

What is a reasonable time to wait to get through security? Has anyone waited more than 15 min?

In a perfect world where people read signs and follow rules that would work, but I guarantee you people will just fill the lane with the shortest line and then there is no benefit… UNLESS it was behind a room key control gate, but even then you’ll have people trying to slide in behind and if you’re going that far, just toss up one or two lanes near the hat at the edge of DLH. Out of sight to everyone else, out of mind. Kinda like the Pixar Place entrance to DCA.

I suspect I’ll probably go through the Grand if the lines are long (basically anything over 5 minutes) when I go in late October. At most I had three or four small groups of people in front of me when I would enter DTD from the DLH. Often there was no one in front of me. Some days I’m back and forth three times…

I mean I’m paying over $600 a night for a room that is far less nice than the ~$350 a night rooms over at the Westin… why exactly? Because you waltz right into DTD. Because I can dash back to the hotel to change into a nicer shirt or a ten minute shower real fast before dinner at Napa Rose or something. Add a 15-30 minute wait to get past security again and it basically makes that useless…

Maybe Disney needs a TSA PreCheck type system, they take $100 from me every couple years and I flash a badge or card or something and breeze through a security lane… seems like money talks when it comes to the Mouse…

Someone on the villas owners thread said they’ve been testing letting hotel guests through security at 6:45 and everyone else at seven. Would love to meet see some more reports if/how well this is working…

I feel stupid for asking this, but is this a DLH key only or would any of the 3 Disneyland hotel cards work?
I don't know. I assume it will be like the Pixar Place gate where any hotel key will work. Along those lines, is it like Pixar Place where the only barrier to using that entrance is the gate? If someone holds the gate open, can anyone who makes it past the gate use that entrance?

Likely… really hard for me to tell where exactly that is… is that the side of the old ESPN zone building to the left ?

That would place it right near where the existing was… but the steel structure to the right looks like where they would have bag check…

You have to still have a bag check for resort guests, so I’m not sure the gate actually will be how guests would get in…

Yes, between ESPN and Din Tai Fung. She took a video through a space in the fence.

I'm not sure how it is going to be set up. I was skeptical that they would put three security entrances in such close proximity, but it looks like they are. :confused3

I spoke to someone doing security at D23 and they confirmed that the new gate (by the sorcerer's hat) would require a hotel key card to enter.

disney.kid.at.heart posted pictures of the new entrance on Instagram today.

WOW! That was fast. We just went to the park Thursday with no obvious progress.

Me too, but I was happy to hear they were opening one.

Another picture. ESPN is to the left and DTF is to the right. It looks like another hot entrance without much shade.

In the foreground, there are three poles which might be the entrance.

It probably won’t need much shade if it’s hotel guests only, that would likely move REALLY fast almost all the time, other than maybe the initial morning surge to get early entry or something.

Gosh I hope this new DLH security entrance is open before the first week of December which is when we are staying at the villas. It will make getting into DTD and the parks so much easier and quicker.
