NEW RUMOR!!!! Kinda strange.

My vote is that someone at CBS actually started the rumor in the hopes that people (outside of Chicago & Indy of course) will actually watch the SB.

Bingo! We have a winner!

This sounds as plausible to me as the Texas park. Texas has a ton of viewers.

I'll also go on record saying that a Texas park would do tremendously well.

Well this is as weird as it gets.

My wife just returned from getting her hair done. The hairdresser tells her that Disney is going to be announcing a new Theme park on Super Bowl Sunday. Said park is rumored to be located in Frisco, Texas.

After I got done laughing I figured I would post here.:lmao:

Any thoughts?

The name of the new Disney theme park is Disney Frontier Texas and located north of Frisco, near Celina. It will be announced during tonight's Superbowl :yay:

yeah they usually have such a difficult time getting people to watch it.:confused3

If there was anything at the SB, I missed it. And I only watched for Disney, not for a bunch of people throwing around a disgusting ball.

The likelyhood of a park springing up in Texas is the same as a park appearing in Alaska. It just won't happen folks, at least not anytime in the near to distant future. Disney has already stated multiple times that they aren't interested in building anymore stateside parks.

The other thing about Texas, too, is that much of it is a very disaster-prone area. I don't think Disney wants to build a park with that much of a risk to its own self.

I'll agree with you on Orlando.......but LA?

Have you ever been to LA? Major, deadly earthquakes don't happen multiple times a year. At their most frequent interval, they happen...maybe...once every 50-60 years.

Texas, on the other hand, has tornadoes, hurricanes, and other extreme weather conditions that happen frequently and cause a very high risk to the population there.

I hope it's done to your liking!!!

And for dessert -- how 'bout a big slab of humble pie???

:rotfl: :rotfl2: :lmao:

If Disney were going to build a Texas location, it would make much more sense to build it in South Central Texas, near San Antonio. Cheaper labor, cheaper land, more land available, huge bilingual workforce, safer weather (as long as they have adequate drainage ;) ). The tourism "culture" is already here, with the river walk, Sea World, Fiesta Texas, historic missions. All of which could be side trips, so Disney wouldn't have to immediately provide "things to do" for a multi day trip. We intersect I-10, I-35 and I-37. We are already a major convention destination.

However, any Disney park in Texas is very unlikely, chances are slim to none, with emphasis on the "none."

I agree that San Antonio would seem to be a better choice than Dallas. San Antonio has 7th largest population of cities in the United States, and the 2nd largest population of cities in Texas (after Houston).

I think another good location would be Austin. It's not too far north of San Antonio, within a triangle formed by San Antonio, Dallas, and Houston. The vast majority of the population of Texas would be within a comfortable driving distance, but far enough away that Disney could fill plenty of hotel rooms.

For guests flying in, Austin-Bergstrom International Airport is an excellent, very modern airport, with plenty of growth potential. With a terminal expansion, the airport could easily handle the demands of a major tourist destination.

I agree. Thus, this is all just an academic discussion.

However, some day, Disney may see an opportunity to generate a lot of "net new" business by building the third major Disney destination in the United Sates. Such a destination would need to be designed to attract a lot of business from within Texas, as well as attracting tourists from throughout North America (and the world) -- without simply stealing those guests from WDW in Florida and the Disneyland Resort in California.

A) Disney can pour $600 million into a new theme park and hope to recoup their investment in 20 years. OR they could put $60 million into Pirate of the Caribbean 27 - The Search for a Coconut and make double their money in a single weekend. Which sounds like today's Disney?

B) No one goes to Texas on vacation; Disney still only gets about 1/4 of the people traveling to Florida to spend a day with the mouse. Which place would be easier to generate a few more tourists?

C) Disney can't even get people to walk a hundred yards from Disneyland's Main Gate to buy a ticket for California Adventure. Do you think they have the confidence to believe they can get 10 million people to suddenly pack-up for a trip to Podunk?

D) Disney is run by a guy who thought "Am I Hot or Not" and "Wife Swap" were fantastic ideas for American Television and then cancelled Monday Night Football. Do you think he's going to understand how Texans want to spend their weekend?

Orlando has tornadoes (the general area had those major tornadoes this weekend), and hurricanes.

But the tornados aren't with any frequency (that's why Florida tornados make national news) and the hurricanes are usually cat 1 by the time they are in Orlando...just a bad rainstorm.

Well, I currently live in Plano, just south of Frisco. I personally can't think of any huge chunk of land that is undeveloped in or near Frisco. The area is booming, but not any more so than any other burb of a major city. There is a Six Flags already not too far from here and they don't even stay open year round, I really don't see this as a major tourist destination. As far as the natural disasters I disagree for the most part, we are pretty far from the coast to worry about hurricanes and I don't see tornadoes being any more of any issue here than anyplace else. One biggy though, we are fighting drought conditions. There is severe water rationing. Some communities had a few months last summer where new pool owners were not allowed to fill them. I have lived all over the country and never have I seen anyplace so dry, brown and UGLY! Disney would have to do some major magic to make this place look good. I also can't see anyone but Texans going to this thing. I heard the rumor too, I just can't bring myself to even half-way believe it. Where does this stuff come from?????
