New ride at US?...

Looking at Google Earth, there is a lot of construction equipment and cleared earth between Revenge of the Mummy and Diagon Alley. Anyone know what's going on there? Apologies if it's a well-known thing....I'm a long-time Disney guy, but fairly new to the US side of things.

Was the Disaster ride that it's replacing the old earthquake on the subway ride? I went to Universal way back in about 1998, and remember that ride. Just curious if it's the same ride.

They also tore down the Beetlejuice stage....So hopefully this will be worth it. My excitement level isn't too high judging from what I've seen from Hollywood but hopefully the ride aspect will be good.

Haha we probably won't know that until at least 6 months out! Can't believe they haven't announced Kong opening yet. Sheesh!

Nothing official, but judging by the state and scope of construction (It'll wind up being the largest building on the resort) of it I'd wager late 2017 (fall). The Fallon ride probably will be open before that, though.

They tore the construction walls down the other day! Progress!
Universal doesn't like to announce opening dates until they're already doing soft openings. I guess they don't want to announce it and have to delay it or anything? The anticipation gets people in the parks hoping they'll catch it opening? I really don't know what it's like in the boardroom of UO. "Alright guys I need a due date for Kong"

BOTH Beetlejuice and Disaster (Formerly Earthquake) were removed for Fast and Furious: Supercharged. We think the entrance for the attraction is going to be where Beetlejuice was, but the San Francisco stuff is staying.

Kong is "Summer 2016" officially, though the Team Members have been riding it for the past few days, then soft openings should start soon after if all goes well, and probably we'll see it open in a month if I was to guess

I'm not a huge FF fan, so I'm really apathetic about it, especially since I've seen the video of what is in Hollywood online. However, I'm not a massive fan of Minions either and I ended up eventually seeing it out of curiosity when it had a low wait time when the park first opened one day. So, I have a feeling I'll probably end up seeing it whether when it opens, or much later. I'm hoping it's a little more than what is at Hollywood, especially since they got rid of not just one, but two attractions for it.

They could really do a lot more with the "fast car" idea instead of being on a tram and watching the action around you, especially since they tore down a whole building and tram setup from Disaster, in order to make this ride.

Exactly, they already had that tram/subway kind of set up and easily reused it, or if anything perhaps extend it, but due to the massive construction I hope they're a little bit more creative. It would be interesting to do a combination of the Hollywood version and what the concept of Disaster was, as half of it being screen (cause let's be real it's probably happening) and perhaps half of it being Disaster in the sense of actual cars, explosions, and maneuvers.

I say this, because while Disaster/Earthquake wasn't my favorite of all time, I still enjoyed the concept of actual chaos that was going around as it was not just a 3D image, but physically happening in time.

Correct me if I am wrong. But I heard that the Today show will be traveling to Universal on June 28th for the Kong ride so I am assuming that is when its opening. We will be there this Fall it will be our last trip for about a year or 2 since we would like to go to Italy but we will definitely be happy at anything new that pops up

I heard that is when the media will be going. Typically, media gets to enjoy rides before a grand opening. There might be soft openings before that, but I do not know, as they are unpredictable. Either way, you will definitely be able to see Kong by the fall when you officially go, as Kong is definitely opening this summer, regardless of what time during the summer. If anything it's best you're going in the fall, as it's cooler and the kids are back in school, so it won't be as crowded.
