new return policy at Disney Stores

I was at my local Disney Store and they have signs posted about a new return policy effective May 2. Returns must be within 60 days, no collectible returns from catalog or on-line, no halloween returns after 10/31, no price adjustments on halloween costumes. That's all I can remember right now. Just wanted to let you all know.

I buy like crazy from DS, because I know I could always return something if I bought two of the same thing (Yes, I buy that much, and actually, I have returned very very little). I just liked that I could return if I needed to. I was going to exchange a few DVDs I bought to give as Xmas gifts, but new rule (effective now) is that you need to show a receipt to exchange. So if I purchased the dvds on sale, can I exchange for anything, or do I need to pay the difference?

As a former "retail slave", I know that even though there are "return policies", if you make a big enough deal about it, they will probably at the least give you store credit to appease you. At least that was the way they were at the store I worked at. They didn't want to lose a customer. I hope Disney is the same way!!

TDS CMs are doing the happy dance.

:bounce: :hyper: :Pinkbounc ::yes::

When I worked at TDS seasonally a few years ago, one of the Marie Osmond Pintrader dolls that sells for $120 at DL was returned. I was not in the store at the time it was returned. The "guest" who returned the doll for a FULL refund had made sure not to include the 2 pins that are included with the doll as part of the purchase (which by the way are worth collectively more than the doll alone on the secondary market). They do also sell one of the dolls in the catalog. I was told other instances similar to that had happened before, and since the TDS CM's were not familiar with what was included with the collectibles, they accepted the merchandise for refunds. At the store I worked at, pins from the USA parks were returned regularly (my guess is if they did not trade or sell). One thing is to return something without part of it unknowingly, but I am sure that instances like this are the reason why they are not accepting collectible returns anymore.

Receipts were always required for any media return, even exchanges.
All gifts with purchases must also be returned: lithos, the flashlights we gave out with halloween a couple of years ago, movie tickets, free dvds, gift cards, plush... Wow, Disney sure likes its guests and gives them lots of gifts!
And "make-a-stink" away... CMs will still be doing happy dances...right on top of your return slip dated within 60 days!

Can you tell I like the new return policy? Everyone is so worried about the survival of the TDS, and this is one of the ways that they are going to try to keep healthy. I think that it is about time. I also will miss buying and returning on a whim, but I think that it is best all around. ESPECIALLY the parts about GWP and halloween costumes.

Don't count on making a stink and having it make a difference, all it will really do is make you look rediculous.

In the past, there were no policies to support the position that Mgmt took with regards to returns, now they will have the support in black and white and the Guest cannot say that they did not know. As of May 2, it will be printed on all the register tape and right now there are signs posted at the registers in the stores.

One of the biggest things this new policy will deter is the Guest that comes in and makes a purchase to get the "gift with purchase" and then a few days later returns the purchased item but not the freebie. That won't be happening any more.

This will be a very good thing for the bottom line of the Disney Stores.

I buy a LOT at the DS and very rarely return anything. But, once in a while I buy something and take it home to try on. It doesn't always fit. So, lets say the DS is offering a free movie ticket with a 50 purchase, and I receive this free movie ticket based on my purchase, which included a sundress which is too tight once I try it on. Does this mean I am not allowed to return/exchange the sundress if I have already used the movie ticket? Are you able to exchange something that is over 60 days if you have a receipt?

I'm not talking about having a temper tantrum. But what I am saying is that some returns ARE legitimate, even past 60 days! I purchase all of my Christmas gifts WAY before Christmas by buying off season and on sale. If I buy something that either doesn't fit or is a duplicate, I want to be sure that it can be exchanged or store credit given. The goal of TDS should be to make the customer happy. I'm not talking about those people who obviously take advantage of the system. I'm talking about those of us who have a legitamite return!!

If I can't continue to purchase items and save them for Christmas and be able to return them if need be, then I won't be spending much money at the Disney Store!

don't worry, be happy :) ~
holiday return policy is being "fine-tuned" ~ stay tuned for details. :teeth:
(disallowing (yup, example has repeatedly occurred  ) return of a deluxe costume & accessories, bought on clearance & worn for over a year ~ for full price paid!!, will help keep the prices lower without compromising quality ~ good news for the vast majority of guests!!)
