I had to call member services to make 11 month priority period reservations, and had lots of problems. In summary, the problem was tracking transferred points home resort.

I asked when are we going to get a new reservations system, and MS told me they are to be scheduled to be trained by April.

I don't know what the new system will do, or not do, sorry...

Lets hope it's an improvement, Goldi

I think in the past this has been an area where DVC kind of looked the other way. First, because the number of times this occurred was rather limited and second, because it would take some adjusting within the reservation system...I suspect the number of times this is happening has been increasing and I applaud them for tackling this issue....it is simply unfair to be able to use points 11 months in advance to book at a non-home resort.

Slightly off topic newbie question wrt the 11 month priority period reservation... What "defines" the 11 month window? The beginning day of a reservation or the final day? I've seen reference on several threads that imply folks are calling MS for reservations day-by-day in a building block approach. That strikes me as remarkably inefficient to say the least. I assume the same guidelines apply to the 7 month window for non-home resort reservations?

According to the member handbook, it is 11 months from when you check out, not when you check in.

B&G, you can make a reservation 11 (or 7) months from the date of check-out. If that date falls on a day when MS is closed (weekend or holiday) you must wait until the next day that MS is open for business.

When people are trying to be assured of getting exactly what they want from a limited supply (BW standard view, GV, etc.) they sometimes will use the day-by-day reservations. You can usually ask MS to look at availability for the upcoming days and then decide whether it's worth calling every day or whether you could wait and book it all at once.

Thanks for the education! Hope to be in a spot soon where we can help new members ourselves rather than be just information sponges. These boards really are an amazing resource.

The bigger issue for me is that the points when transferred have often picked up the use year of the recipient rather than retaining the original use year. In my case, that meant that my points expired within thirty days, but when transferred suddenly were able to be used for almost a full year more!

It seems to me that if someone transfers points to me, they should retain the original home resort booking priority. That seems fair. Anyone can do it. It doesn't seem deceitful. It actually sounds like a great way to work within the system. :earsboy:

Then I can get "priority" at different resorts. :earsboy: :earsboy:

I absolutely agree, but from what i understand that's not what was happening in all cases. An example of what i was speaking of would be if you had 100 OKW points and wanted to make GV reservations at 11 months for week in July you would probably need somewhere in the neighborhood of 500 points for that, even with a full years worth of banking and borrowing that only gets you to 300, so you have 200 Vero points transfered into your account by some wonderful soul on the Dis Rent/Trade Board......now you should not be able to use those 200 points at the 11 month window to finish your OKW GV reservation, but in many cases people were allowed to do this because of a glitch in the MS computer system that didn't keeptrack of home resort when the points were transfered.

PS I agree with Doctor P that the use year issue may be even larger, I hope they fix that as well.
