The manual says I should wait 24 hours before I start making ice in my new refrigerator. Does anyone know why I have to wait that long? Before I was able to shut the ice maker off, it filled with water. Two cubes just dropped down. So, I'm trying to figure out if I really need to wait that long.

Also, how do you clean stainless steel?

We were told to throw the first few batches out of ice and run the water for a few glasses and throw it out. Basically you are clearing the water lines.

It can take up to 24 hours for it to cool enough to make ice.

As far as stainless, I've used stainless steel cleaner and even windex on stainless steel.

We already flushed 3 gallons of water from the water dispenser. I'm assuming it uses the same line for the ice maker. ? So, it seems like the water should be ok to use now. This is our first refrigerator with an ice/water dispenser.

I was told it was because the freeze needs time to get to freezing temp and that that the ice could take on different tastes because it was not cold enough. we were also told to throw away the first 2/3 batches....

The only thing I can think of is the actual water lines inside the fridge to the water and ice maker is why you do both. I would just throw away the first couple of 'drops' of ice.

Enjoy your new fridge!
