New puppy questions

We have a 4 yo male golden retriever. He lost his brother over a year ago and we are looking to get him a puppy. Any opinions on if we should look for a male or a female?
We would spay/neuter so breeding isn't an issue.

I've always had male dogs..anything about a female I should know? I know that spaying costs more....

Comet is very loving and sensitive....he needs a sibling that will love him...maybe a girl would be better?

We have a three year old boy Bichon (Ollie) and over Easter got a 12 week old girl Bichon (Lacey). Ollie is a very happy go lucky, easy going dog and we knew he would do well with another dog in the house. I too have only had boys and was a bit hesitant to try a girl. Lacey is just so sweet and Ollie loves her to death. They play together several times a day, they snuggle and are just so cute together. Lacey just got spayed today, Ollie has been neutered too. If you spay a girl, you should do it before they have their first heat. Ollie cost 100 dollars to neuter, Lacey cost 200 dollars-spaying is giving her a hysterectomy-ovaries and all. Ollie has tried to hump Lacey on occasion but we just tell him to knock it off.

Good luck with your decision. I am so glad we got Ollie a friend-he really loves her.
