New Preferred View Booking Categories At BWV

Just read on the members' website that they've created two separate preferred view categories at BWV. Preferred:Boardwalk View and Preferred:Garden/Pool view. Now they will book you on the side you request when making reservations, if available.

Wow! I think that's great AND it doesn't cost any additional points.

Now if they could only tell you when the reservation was made if the room was smoking or non...

Wow

I guess they were having to many problems with too many people acting like babies during check in.

Now we all have to eat the extra costs associated with members acting like babies during check in, what a shame.

This confuses me...

If they're really planning on following the "first come, first served" plan, then why are they wasting time & effort on creating new preferences?

Could any members still expect to hear the "Oops - look like somebody gave your room away" statement when they check in later in the day with this new booking preference system in place?

I would say, no, because the member would know when the reservation was made they did not get the boardwalk view. They would have the option, at the time the reservation was made, to either book the other preferred view or not book at all.

I can see owners at other resorts wanting this same type of treatment though. BCV creating an EPCOT view, VWL a non-dumpster view, OKW a golf course view or water view, etc.

That's an interesting thought, TidoublegaER. Do you think that this is an attempt at a solution to the "reservation request turmoil?!?"

That's what I am wondering, especially since it seems to be going to first come, first served at check-in. Maybe this is test run at BWV and they will implement this at other resorts depending on how it goes there. It will be interesting to see what happens.

OK, this tells me the "first come, first served" is a bunch of garbage. This tells me that your room is assigned at the time the reservation is made.

Now people will be calling day by day for the boardwalk view at 11 months.

This makes me think twice. Since BW view was not guaranteed, I have booked standard view for the past 3 years to save points (after being disappointed on our first trip with quiet pool). If I could be guaranteed BW view, I might want to go for it next year for once. If not available, then I could do standard. Something to think about.

That is what I like about standard view at the end of the hall. Request it and there is nothing to be disapointed about - I can enjoy my vacation.

Interesting. How are we paying "extra" for this. I do not comprenhend this. Please explain....

My guess would be this is to help BWV owners get the best advantage of the BW preferred view in the 11 month window. When I wrote to them about the check-in policy and said that it takes the home resort advantage for the choice views away - I got a call and was told something would be done to accomodate it.

I think it's a good move - and sounds like a similar thing with the 2 queen/queen + couch room types at BCV. That they made it a room type - not just a request?

This is great news. Now if I want Boardwalk view, I will pay for it and know I will have it or I can waitlist for it.

Maybe this is because the DVC sales office will create more boardwalk view rooms so that they can have a category just for that.

I wonder if they would put rooms on the first level of the Boardwalk. I would think it would be noisy, people always walking by. The DVC models also faced the pool, I assumed that's where the extra rooms were coming from.

Interesting experiment....I think it would be a good idea for those few coveted BWviews....If you want one you call at the 11 month window and get it otherwise you get a pool/garden view...

I'm sure they can still use the first come first serve equation to give out these rooms....Just like I have a standard room and if I get there early they don't give my a preferred room....It just adds a layer but I'm sure it will make it easier on the poor room assigner and the front desk CM's...

Wow! I think this is wonderful news!! Also makes me very happy we own at BWV to take advantage of the 11 month window for this!

I think this is great. Another Home Resort advantage for those of us Boardwalk Villas owners who own there.

I don't see the correlation. I think it's more a response to the problem than anything else. Here's how I'd guess it happened. The resorts themselves went to the first come first served issue (at least in some situations) and MS changed the booking categories to fix the problem, at least in part. I think it makes it better for everyone in the long run. At least you'll know and if your plan you have a chance to affect your own destiny.
