The news on the move of concierge from Hawaii to Tahiti is that it will take place the first week of June (I know nothing new here) but what they are going to do is phase out the guests from the Hawaii building to the Tahiti building that week meaning that new reservations in June will be in Tahiti and some overlapping reservations will be in Hawaii so the first week will have concierge in both longhouses. No one will be asked to switch longhouses during the stay. The bad news is that the renovations of Hawaii is scheduled to go till October 17th.

The next bit of news is that the concierge desk will be in the sitting area on the second floor.

The concierge lounge sofas and TV will be in the sitting area of the 3rd floor. These sitting area windows face the garden side of Tahiti.

The good news is the lounge food area and tables will be in two lagoon view rooms in Tahiti on the 3rd floor so that you will have a view of the lagoon in the eating area. Also Chef Dick is planning on some surprises to the menu. With all the good things he makes I am sure it will be great.

Aloha

Steve

Thanks, Steve!!! :) :) :)

I just got the "OK" from my DH to plan a WDW trip in Jan or Feb of next year. It will be our first trip together in over 2 years. So, I'm excited. We plan to head back to the Polynesian concierge for part of the trip. I'm anxious to see the new rooms!

Thanks again for the update. :)

Question for you, Steve! Do you know if they plan on changing the bedding at all during the renovation? I'm wondering whether they will try to add some king bed rooms.

They are keeping the changes to the Hawaii longhouse very quiet for two reasons. They want it to be a surprise and they are not sure if they will do all the things they know about. I have not heard that the rooms will change in any way or that King beds will be added. I was told long ago that they would never want to limit the amount of guests they could get into rooms by adding one king bed since one of the biggest things that people like about the resort is that you can sleep 5. King beds would limit the rooms that you could sleep 5 in. From what I hear most of the changes are going to be to the lounge and the rooms are just going to be fixed up like the other longhouses were.

The third floor lounge area occupying two LV rooms is just what I had suggested before as a really good alternative! It will give a nice view while enjoying the treats Chef Dick offers! Great news for those of us planning a stay in Tahiti during the Hawaii rehab.

One question I've not been able to get an answer to, however, is whether or not there will be keyed entry to the building? I, for one, enjoy the added security the keyed access affords. Have you heard anything about this? I asked and didn't get an answer to that minor detail.

With the new information, I'm truly looking forward to our return to Polynesian and the stay in Tahiti--haven't been in that building for 7 or 8 years!

I will see if I can find out about the key entry. The other thing I was thinking is what is it going to be like fighting over the balconies in the two rooms used for the lounge? Maybe they will be locked.

Locking the balcony doors would be prudent--otherwise the view will be nonexistent to some--those balconies aren't that large! ;) I'm happy the tv won't be in the same rooms--I always found that a bit of a distraction. I also didn't enjoy watching some of the unsupervised munchkins bouncing all over the sofas with cupcakes and the like in their hands. . .but that's another thread. ;)

Thanks for your efforts Steve.

I think Tahiti already has doors for which you need a room key to enter between 11pm & 7am. I know Rapa Nui does and am almost 100% certain all Poly buildings do. It would seem easy to switch them to 24 hour lockdown.

That may be true. It has been so long since I have been out of Concierge and I never remember using a key to get into the other longhouses but maybe I did.

Hmmm... now you have got me wondering which building we will be in Hawaii or Tahiti. We are arriving May 31.
Any clue?

It depends on when you leave. I think if you are only there a week you may be in Hawaii. If you are there longer you will be in Tahiti.

Well which ever one we end up in I am sure I will be happy. After all I am at Disney, right!!
We will only be there until the 7th. I will bring back some pics and try to post them of the temporary set up for concierge, etc in tahiti .
Thanks for the info!

We are arriving on May 31 and staying for 6 nights. We were concerned about having to move in the middle of our stay from Hawaii to Tahiti. The CM told us that we would be checked into the Tahiti Longhouse for our entire stay. We were told that all concierge benefits would be available to us at Tahiti. Actually, we are getting excited to check out the Tahiti Longhouse, since we stayed at the Hawaii last time.

I'm getting excited too. Last time we stayed at the Poly it was at Hawaii, this time Tahiti, Lagoon view, for a 4 night stay in July.

Steve I spoke with the manager of the Polynesian when I first heard about the rehab in Concierge and I was assured that Tahiti will be a locked building just as Hawaii is now. He assured me that our stay during the rehab would be as magical and as wonderful as it would have been if we were staying in the Hawaii building.

Tikiman, thanks so much for the great update!! I would like to ask one question and I apologize in advance if this has been answered, but I am not sure about the smoking/non-smoking rooms. I know how they did it in Hawaii. Last time we had a second floor room. I am very sensitive to smoke and do not want a smoking room. Do you know how the rooms will be set up while concierge is in Tahiti? Thanks for any info!

Well a few months ago Tahiti changed some of its rooms to smoking due to an increase in smoking reservations so I believe they will leave those same rooms smoking for the concierge move with no additional rooms. These rooms I was told are half of the ground level rooms which are rooms 1002-1014 (garden view) and 1015-1028 lagoon view.

Thanks so much for the info!!! I just wrote the room numbers down so we can avoid them.

Thanks again!

We will be arriving Oct.16th and staying until the 26th. Any word on if they will be keeping both lounges open that week like they are doing at the beginning of the renovations???DH really has his heart set on Hawaii because his MS is getting much worse and may not be able to handle going anymore.

Thanks!!

Laura
