Hey everyone, I just got back from a fabulous stay at the Polynesian. I was a little apprehensive about some of the negative feedback, but it was super! I have previously stayed at the GF, BWV, OKW, and the Cont.
The first night we crashed at CBR, and it was nice and tropical and quite enjoyable. It was very pretty at night as you walked over the bridge to the food court. There were beaches and hammocks everywhere for a nice transition to the Poly.
Saturday morning we checked in around 8am and were upgraded to Tahiti lagoon/MK view from garden view. Okay, so I am very excited but nervous about the walk from the GCH. NO worries! Good grief-it was nothing!! I had blisters on my toes and hills (wimpy feet) and the walk to our room never bothered me. Hint: walk from the GCH through the lobby of Tokelau and you are there in no time. I even had some bad Pecos Bill and still didn't think the walk was bad.
The pool was never too crowded. We always got a seat with no problem. One tip with the dining plan is to eat lunch at Captain Cooks (great flatbread pizza) and keep your cup for your pineapple dolewhip for later as a snack by the pool when you need a little light, cool refreshment...yummy.
We were right next to the TTC, but I personally prefer to use the lobby monorail to go to the MK and use the TTC for Epcot or the return trip. The hike up hill to the TTC is rough on weak calves. Yikes! Again, it is very close to the lobby, and you don't have everybody in Orlando trying to get on.
By the way, we were the very last room (closest to the TTC at Tahiti). For those of you paying for lagoon, request a room in Tahiti on the side closer to the GCH. We had a great view of Space Mountain, but 2 palm trees blocked most of the castle...no complaints when I realized it held my favorite hammock.
At night, round up your kids to watch the Electrical Water Parade and the fireworks from the beach (music piped in) and then go into the lobby, 2nd floor by O'hana's, to hear a guitarist play favorites. It was fun to hear him change the lyrics to Brown Eyed Girl: "behind the monorail with you, my brown eyed girl". This was fun for all and a relaxing end to the day.
Mousekeeping was awesome, and we received towel animals (a rat, excuse me, a m-o-u-s-e). Remember that if you do not use all your snack credits, you can go to your resort's shop and cash it in on groceries. We got $50 of groceries for the car trip back (bags of chips, muffins, waters etc).
The Poly was awesome. At night the lobby is especially inviting. The pool was refreshingly cool and the little tiki shower guy was great after playing in the sand. Make sure and plan some down time with a good book for the hammock.
Ok, any questions, feel free to ask. Oh yeah, Kona's was delicious for b-fast. Order the pressed pot and then treat yourself to one from Linens and Things or similar shop in your city. Split the tonga toast or eat it all like I did
Enjoy your stay. It really is awesome.
