Hey everyone, I just got back from a fabulous stay at the Polynesian. I was a little apprehensive about some of the negative feedback, but it was super! I have previously stayed at the GF, BWV, OKW, and the Cont.

The first night we crashed at CBR, and it was nice and tropical and quite enjoyable. It was very pretty at night as you walked over the bridge to the food court. There were beaches and hammocks everywhere for a nice transition to the Poly.

Saturday morning we checked in around 8am and were upgraded to Tahiti lagoon/MK view from garden view. Okay, so I am very excited but nervous about the walk from the GCH. NO worries! Good grief-it was nothing!! I had blisters on my toes and hills (wimpy feet) and the walk to our room never bothered me. Hint: walk from the GCH through the lobby of Tokelau and you are there in no time. I even had some bad Pecos Bill and still didn't think the walk was bad. :)

The pool was never too crowded. We always got a seat with no problem. One tip with the dining plan is to eat lunch at Captain Cooks (great flatbread pizza) and keep your cup for your pineapple dolewhip for later as a snack by the pool when you need a little light, cool refreshment...yummy.

We were right next to the TTC, but I personally prefer to use the lobby monorail to go to the MK and use the TTC for Epcot or the return trip. The hike up hill to the TTC is rough on weak calves. Yikes! Again, it is very close to the lobby, and you don't have everybody in Orlando trying to get on.
By the way, we were the very last room (closest to the TTC at Tahiti). For those of you paying for lagoon, request a room in Tahiti on the side closer to the GCH. We had a great view of Space Mountain, but 2 palm trees blocked most of the castle...no complaints when I realized it held my favorite hammock. :)

At night, round up your kids to watch the Electrical Water Parade and the fireworks from the beach (music piped in) and then go into the lobby, 2nd floor by O'hana's, to hear a guitarist play favorites. It was fun to hear him change the lyrics to Brown Eyed Girl: "behind the monorail with you, my brown eyed girl". This was fun for all and a relaxing end to the day.

Mousekeeping was awesome, and we received towel animals (a rat, excuse me, a m-o-u-s-e). Remember that if you do not use all your snack credits, you can go to your resort's shop and cash it in on groceries. We got $50 of groceries for the car trip back (bags of chips, muffins, waters etc).

The Poly was awesome. At night the lobby is especially inviting. The pool was refreshingly cool and the little tiki shower guy was great after playing in the sand. Make sure and plan some down time with a good book for the hammock.

Ok, any questions, feel free to ask. Oh yeah, Kona's was delicious for b-fast. Order the pressed pot and then treat yourself to one from Linens and Things or similar shop in your city. Split the tonga toast or eat it all like I did:love:

Enjoy your stay. It really is awesome.

Thanks for the great review! I am heading to the Poly tomorrow! This is our first stay in a resort in Disney World, and our first trip in 11 years! We are stoked!:yay:

Glad you had a great time! And thank you for talking about the walk from the GCH to Tahiti. It really is not that far of a walk.:goodvibes

I need to edit spelling-"hills" should be "heels". I must have been thinking about that hike up to the TTC monorail:rotfl:

I hope we love it in July as much as you did!!! Thanks for the review...:goodvibes

Thanks for the rave review! We'll be checking-in at the Poly in 8 days! :flower3:

Question though - Can you tell me more about your room upgrade? I keep seeing reports about people receiving these free upgrades and I am just curious. We've never received one, but then again we've never asked. Just wondering how the subject comes up during the Check-In process?

Thanks for that great review and as someone who will be having their 1st stay at the Polynesian this December, it makes me happy to read about someone else like yourself who just their 1st stay there and hear that it went amazing. :thumbsup2

Thanks for all the info; we're staying there for the first time in May. We decided after looking at others that the Poly would be best for our 3 girls. Maybe we can get an upgrade from GV too!

I love when I hear the good reviews since we are trying the poly for the first time in april. We have been worried at times due to all the different reviews.

Glad you had a great time!!!!

My wife love's the Poly also hopefully one day we will be able to afford staying there instead of just visiting!pirate:

Thanks for the review. we're going next month & i would also love to know how the room upgrade came about.... did you request any room to begin with? Did you ask to be upgraded to LV if it was available? Just hoping to score an upgrade too! Did you eat at ohanas? wondering if it's as loud and annoying as some posters say? I've also heard pretty terrible things about the food! I'm on the fence about whether to even eat there but then it seems silly to not even try it while we are there....i'm just worried that it will be way too loud for our 5 month old & that i'll be sorry we ate there.....any feedback appreciated guys!:thumbsup2

We are heading to the Poly in 13 days and I can't wait....I am so excited about this trip. I have dreamed of staying at the Poly for YEARS and it is finally happening!! Now if I can get cooler weather (80's with low humdity) and low crowds. It really would be a dream come true!! :rotfl:

ANy pics??

Hey again. I'll try to answer the upgrade question. We had received a letter from the Polynesian planning office a few days before we left, saying we were in concierge (although we paid for standard garden). When we arrived, they originally wrote down Aeoretora (sp?). Well, we showed them our letter, and they came back, saying that was mistakenly sent but they got us a lagoon view. I had also asked (before she went to check on the Hawaii longhouse )to be in Tahiti or Tokelau if the letter was a mistake. I wanted bigger and newer, so although Aeoretora may be awesome, I was going to see if the others were available. I would have loved Hawaii, but Tahiti was wonderful.
Still, receiving a false letter was a bit of a bummer....I got over it quickly on the dining plan when I would have made myself ill had I also eaten concierge treats. Oh, and if you can't book concierge, you can always purchase a bag of little chocolate mints for a couple of dollars at your local Winn Dixie, and then at the hotel place them on the pillows yourself. It saves a ton of money, and the kids still get excited.:thumbsup2

On the same note, the previous trip we went to GF early December and asked if they had any upgrades available by any chance (hoping for lagoon view). They responded that we were already upgraded in the system to concierge Sugar Loaf. I think it is mostly done just by chance, but it never hurts to request and be genuinely personable and friendly. It also helps to book something you can be happy with if you are not upgraded. Good luck!:wizard:

We are going in 2 weeks. What does it mean to be in concierge?
Glad to hear the good report, we are getting excited!
