New Policy for Adding Dining Plan

maybe it would work like a la carte dining credits.... you get a discount if you purchase a package of 5,10,20, etc dining credits that could be used for table or QS by anyone on your party.

might not be too difficult to pull off froma WDW point of view... they just add your prepurchased credits to your KTTW card at the beginning of the trip.....

Is this going to be a DVC only deal? The reason I ask is that I've always felt the dining plan for those staying in non-DVC resorts was simply Disney's way to try to keep patrons and their money on Disney property for the entire trip, which is the reason it has been tied to the number of nights on their stay.

I'd like to hear how they propose to work the logistics of the new plan, but it could definitely be an attractive perk. Some of us like to eat out part of the time and make use of the kitchen in the villa part of the time.

I would love this. I hope it happens. I do the DDP now b/c we have a 3 year old that likes character meals but it would nice to not have to do it everyday of our stay.

I would love this!!!!! We found that the QS and regular plans do not work for us at all as we prefer TS meals but that the DXDP for each night over a week is just way too much food!!! Being able to just do the DXDP for 2 or 3 nights over the course of a week would be great for us.

Add me to the list of people who would be thrilled with this change. I'm sure they realized that DVC people who have a full kitchen often can't justify the DDP for their entire stay. This way, they get us back in the restaurants rather than trending to eat in our rooms more. With each trip, we have eaten out less and less. Plus we have often cancelled our ADRs when we decided that it would just be easier to go back to the room to eat. Now if we have already prepaid for our meals, we would be making those ADRs. Plus add a drink and appetizer on OOP, and they make even more money.
Finally, a good decision on DVCs part that makes sense. (If they go thru with it and if you get those credits at the beginning of the stay to use as you'd wish throughout your stay).

Don't you tip anyway? I end up ahead on the TIW plan as I would usually tip at least 20%.

I think this is too good to be true.
I look at the dining plan more of a pre-paid dining, and if I could do DDP for 4 days and no DP for 3 days of a drip, they would lose $$. Disney is all about increasing $$ not lowering them. It works out in the buyers best interest, not Disney.

I WOULD BE if it were. I think there is a % of DVC that do DP and do DDP. I do it about 75% of the time. 1-2 nights, due to no avail or something I do DDP, and go to CRT, and/or Mickeys BBQ.

I SUPPOOOOORT this but.. I will wait until it is offered for the happy dance.

I'm with you. This just sounds too good to be true.

But I still hope that it is! We'd do DDP for some nights of our trips, too. Just can't do it for the full trip as it is way too much food for us.

I have never used the DP. I feel as though I would be restricted on what I can get. I hate to feel as though I need to order something from this category, but I can't get anything from that category.
A couple of years ago it had "convenience" going for it, since tips were included. Now you have to pay anyway, so that convenience is gone IMO. That never really held true for us though, as we are drinkers at dinner.

The TIW is the best deal since sliced bread, IMO.

I can't think Disney would really make a decision that costs money, although 'health initiatives' do have a strong voice in Disney dining..(too much food...)

But with the upcoming change to pre-paid ddp (pay at reservation time instead of checkin) they might actually view this to be a way to incrementally increase revenue. I keep wanting to get 'up sold' to add a discounted dining plan like my pre-DVC stays. This would allow up sells without actually reducing a plan price..

I am sure Disney can track how many DVC guests have reservations, etc and if they see those numbers dropping they will look at solutions. DVC members have the ability to cook and eat in their rooms that normal hotel guest don't have, so giving DVC members this advantage helps alleviate that and maybe puts those members back into the restaurants.

It also might be there to help combat the complaints that DVC members have concerning free dining and lack of perks in this area. Suddenly they can say, "you get this advantage to only have partial dining plan" while everyone else has to pay for the length of stay.

Count me in! I hope it happens by January, as that is when I'm going! I like the DxDP, but not for every day, so getting it for partial stay would be great!

this is a great idea.

for us some days we dont bother with lunch so that TS meal we can add to dinner and eat signature. But if you aren't eating signature every night why not have a cheaper plan for that night.

Way to go disney. This makes a lot of sense but i can see how you can get confused easily on the new system.

They must've been reading my mind...
I was just telling DH that on our next trip I'm only planning a couple restaurants (we usually do at least one every day) and starts\ using the kitchen or do deliveries. We purchased TIW and already made up the $75 no problem.

Now... IF they do implement partial dining plan for length of stay I will have to rethink my decision on doing deliveries/cooking. If they implement partial DP for partial stay then I have my decision made for us. Definitely keep TIW and do cooking/delivery...

I'm not so sure, as I specifically stated it was $75.00/year.

I think he/she doesn't see value in purchasing a discount card (many people do not), and probably doesn't like the mandatory tip.
