New Policy for Adding Dining Plan

i hope this is true.:cool1:

i eat way to much with DDP. i mean do i really need a desert with all those CS?:confused3

we plan to go in Aug next year. and all the other times we have gone with the Free DDP and stayed in the values, and moderates.

we just joined DVC and were thinking of the TIW card.

TIW - Tables in Wonderland card. Costs $75.00/year with a 20% discount on most TS restaurants and a few CS (alcohol counts as well). Mandatory 18% tip is added to each bill. Must have an AP or be a Florida resident in order to purchase.

Free Dining - As has been discussed on this thread at least 1 million times - LOL! - we do qualify for Free Dining as it's a package promo. If you pay rack rate for your room, you will get the Free Dining promo. It is a marketing promo used to generate sales, and not a reward, so DVC members would not be given it for free, as you are suggesting.

Tiger :)

20% discount...mandatory 18% tip....for $75??? :confused3 Thanks but no thanks.

This is very interesting! I would jump at the chance to purchase a DxDDP for 4 of a 7 night stay... especially if I could stretch the credits out over the whole 8 days!

We are doing DDP for our stay next week... but only because DD9 still gets it for $10 a day... so it still pays for itself. I was planning on going ahead and picking up out TIW card, so I could use it for drinks and our 'add on' Kona breakfast this trip.... because TIW was our plan for April (DD will be 10 then)

This dining possibility would be an awesome perk...IF it comes about!

That sounds great. Hope Disney actually makes the changes to make the dining plan more flexible.:cool1::banana:

I still wouldn't want DDP.

And this sounds like such a logistical nightmare I have a hard time believing it's actually going to happen.

But I can see it helping us if we go on 3 trips to WDW. Just like APs, for our Dec trip and the 2 we will take next year--it should help us some. We tip well anyway, so it is like getting a tip for free--yeah,yeah that's the ticket.

I've long advocated that some flexibility is in order due to the inherent differences in how DVC villas house people and the transient nature of some guests and the longer full week type stays that are more likely with DVC members. However, I can't imagine they would do it as al a cart as the OP described. Too much work, too confusing, etc. We'll see, would be great for me as we often get a full week in exchange and just stay 3-4 days.

Given that tipping is a pretty automatic and required event, I don't see that as a reason not to use the TIW card. I would agree that the tip being automatic causes some potential issues but not enough to opt of a a program that could otherwise save one a fair amount of money.

I'm hoping that this works out.
I no longer eat nearly enough to make full use of me being on the DP - my DH on the other hand - DP is totally worth it....

If this does pan out and they allow us to book just X amount of nights on a plan but it can be valid your entire stay, then we may actually get the DDP next summer.

This year, we did a split with DDP and QSDP. We realized that we don't like having to do the 2 - 3 TS meals we do during our typical 6 night trip all crammed in to 3 days. It would be better to do it every other day so we figured we had to opt out of the plan.

If we can now just book 3 nights of DDP for our 6 nights trip and use the credits from check in through check out, then it would work out for us.

It will be interesting to see!

I really hope this happens! We don't use the DDP because our kids (Disney adults;) ) wouldn't eat enough to make it worth it, but if we could get it for fewer nights or just for me and DH, it would be great! I'm crossing my fingers on this one.:thumbsup2

We did a "split stay" this past August, 3 nights Kidani, 4 nights Vero...

Obviously Vero has no dining plan, but decided for next year 4 nights we would not do dining plan...Wanted to try it without the Dining Plan...

Wow, if that be the case, I think I'll do 2 nights DDP, 2 nights no DDP!

Hope this comes to fruition! I think it will bring more DVC folks back to the dining plan!:wizard::wizard:

We ended up asking the CM's if we could substitute a water bottle instead of dessert, or a bag of apple slices/grapes too. They accommodated us EVERY time! We would have our drink with the meal, and save the water bottle or grapes for snacks later on..so much better than all that dessert .

Don't be so quick to say no thanks to that offer. We are a couple in our 60's, and that deal saves us quite a bit over the course of 13 months (the length of the discount). We like to eat at the signatures, so after about 3 dinners, we have recouped the cost of the card, and from there on it's gravy. The 18% tip saves for us too, since we usually tip 20% if it's not added to the bill for us.

I think this is too good to be true.
I look at the dining plan more of a pre-paid dining, and if I could do DDP for 4 days and no DP for 3 days of a drip, they would lose $$. Disney is all about increasing $$ not lowering them. It works out in the buyers best interest, not Disney.

I WOULD BE :woohoo: if it were. I think there is a % of DVC that do DP and do DDP. I do it about 75% of the time. 1-2 nights, due to no avail or something I do DDP, and go to CRT, and/or Mickeys BBQ.

I SUPPOOOOORT this but.. I will wait until it is offered for the happy dance.

:surfweb:

I can just imagine though, that Disney would charge more, per day, for this new dining plan...

Can I copyright "Dining Your Way"?

Love that! I think this would be excellent and although I will not count on it, I would be thrilled if it turns out to be the real deal. We have never used the DDP plan. However if I could chose how many days I wanted to use the plan that would work out perfectly. Keeping my fingers crossed. :earsboy:
