This year even though I am going during free dining, I opted on taking the room discount instead and plan to visit restaurants that are not on the dining plan such as Tutto Italia Ristorante. Any suggestions as to restaurants that I shouldn't miss?

Tutto Italia is a participating Disney Dining Plan Restaurant for 2010.

Hmmm, I may have to rethink it then. We always go on the dining plan, and that has more than enough food that we don't go to anything not on the plan. wanted to do things a little differently on this trip. Thanks for pointing that out.

Have you tried any of the restaurants at the Swan & Dolphin? They have casual from Picabu & Fountain to Signature Shula & Il Mulino not to mention sushi at Kimonos

I hadn't even considered those either. It seems as if I've got lots more choices than I ever realized. This is going to be so fun coming up with new dining experiences. I've never eaten at the Swan or Dolphin. Thanks!

I also recommend the Swan and Dolphin for great meal choices while not on the dining plan. Also Bistro de Paris in Epcot would be one to try too :thumbsup2

Instead of Tutto Italia, perhaps you could try Portobello's in DTD. We are thinking of trying it in July and it isn't on the DDP.

I am going to be sure to hit the Swan and Dolphin on my upcoming trip. I know that DH once wanted to try Bistro de Paris, but when it wasn't on the dining plan we went to Chefs de France instead. Here's my chance! :yay:

I checked out the menu of Portobello's and it looks good! Let me know how you liked it if you try it in July. I like to try and keep each trip different, and this is certainly giving me new options by not having to stick to the dining plan options (not that there aren't a lot of good choices on the dining plan). It's kind of like a new experience because I am looking at menus of choices I haven't considered before.

We are also passing on the Dining Plan in September since neither of us eat desserts or many snacks...so I am thinking that going to restaurants not on the DDP would be less crowded and quiet during this time...

looking forward to more non DDP restaurant suggestions!

Previous posters are right - Tutto Italia is on the plan. For Italian you might try Il Mulino at the Swan, which is not.

Bistro de Paris is the only restaurant located inside a theme park that is not on the dining plan.

These are the restaurants that are not on the plan:

All restaurants at the Swan/Dolphin

All restaurants at Shades of Green

Downtown Disney TS:
Portobello
Fulton's
Rainforest Café
T-Rex Cafe
Bongos
Wolfgang Puck's Dining Room (upstairs; not the cafe - they take it)
House of Blues
Paradiso 37

Epcot TS:
Bistro de Paris

Animal Kingdom TS (at the park but outside the gates):
Rainforest Cafe

Grand Floridian:
Victoria and Albert's
Garden View Tea Room
