New Pirates with Jack - HATED IT!!

Just back and hated it ! :guilty: Yes the new AA are good but the story line is "How many times can you say Jack Sparrow before the ride ends!" Yo ho is hardly played it is disjointed IMHO!

"Yo Ho" still plays in just about every scene in the attraction.

The only thing I didn't like about it was there was no warning about the drop. The Davy Jones waterfall was cool.

Never said i hated the ride...just think it should have been left alone. Its like changing Space Mountian....no need for it because it is perfect as is!!! Can you imagine the outcry if they changed that??
Actually, Space Mountain has been changed at least a couple of times over the years. The cars used to be bench seats where you sat with another person. Then they switched to the current cars with individual seats. They've also changed the soundtrack and the lighting effects a couple of times. And in Disneyland, they've totally redone Space Mountain with an entirely new track which is actually phenomenal and has been very well received.

I guess I'm a double minority, because I've never particularly thought much of POC (sacrilege!)

Be careful, they're going to throw ya off these boards.

I just got back and honestly didn't see that big of a difference in the "new" POC. The only major changes were the Davy Jones waterfall and Jack Sparrow being added to a few scenes. I still love POC, and all in all it's very much the same ride! :thumbsup2

Those stunk! I hate, hate, hate having to sit in between another riders legs. It's uncomfortable and awkward. I don't care how close that person and I are.

I agree. I like the new cars better, too. I'm not totally against change. A lot of things at Disney, from Space Mountain to Carousel of Progress to the Monorail have been changed over the years in good ways. But some changes, IMO, aren't so good and I think POTC is one of those not so good changes.

I understand that people have varying opinions. To be honest, most of the people I've talked to really liked the changes to PotC (and I don't think it can be compared to Stitch - that's just ugly :p). pirate:

I, however, didn't care for some of the changes to CoP. The virtual reality video game at the end was a bit much, if you ask me. I understand that progress has to be demonstrated, but that and the changes made to some of the earlier segments didn't really click with me.

I do miss the other song, even though the current song is actually the original from the World's Fair. Some of the changes were necessitated by GE pulling out as sponsor years ago, so I guess they couldn't help that.

That's what I thought too. Blondeheroine pointed out before that the only places it has been changed is during the Wicked Wench scene and during the very end where Jack is singing it instead of the chorus, which sounds about right to me. To be honest, I hadn't noticed there was any difference in the amount it was played.

Could somebody who is saying that Yo Ho was hardly being played clarify where you noticed it was missing? I believe everyone's entitled to like or dislike the changes for whatever reasons they have, but I'm honestly confused as we seem to all have heard something different when we rode. :confused3

One place where I distinctly noticed it was the scene where to your left there are 3 musicians playing. I seem to think there is a donkey in the scene as well. They used to sing it quite loudly because I always used to sing along at that point. It was absent there (or at least very soft compared to before).

I think that might be an issue of growing pains since it just re-opened in July. In December, the musicians and donkey were once again singing "Yo Ho."

I noticed that from September to October, they improved it some more. In September, it was SO dark when you first went in that you couldn't see the rocks before the mist curtain. However, in October, the lighting was back to normal - making no change to the effect of the mist curtain.

And to the person who mentioned the lady in the window missing, as of October, she was opening and closing the shutters and yelling down below. :thumbsup2

Put me down in the disappointed group. I know why they did it, but they shouldn't have. It ruined the fun of it.

can anyone tell me if the "dead man tells no tales" is still there...its a fav. part of mine and would miss it if its no longer there. thanks!

It's still there.

Why were my comments ABOUT this ride removed from this thread???????? Any mod care to comment?????

I just got back and I liked the changes. The Davy Jones "waterfall" is a cool effect. The cannons are awesome; I felt like one shot me in the head, where I never noticed them before.

The sound was much better than last year. Jack Sparrow is just added in; he is NOT in every scene. The singing is still there too.

Before the changes, I would be in line/on the ride and people would ask where Jack Sparrow was. They didn't realize that POC was a ride BEFORE the movie. So, they were disappointed when they didn't see him. To me, the changes have allowed those people to have Jack and the others to still have most of the original ride. It's a nice compromise.

I am sorry for all those that don't like it and won't ride it again, but it just means that I will have less of a wait. ;)

Hi Fore2213,

I've looked through all of your posts and don't see any that were edited or removed. Can you link me to what's been changed and I'll see if I can figure it out?

I don't think Disney should compromise their classic attractions to appeal to the mood of the day. A classic becomes a classic for a reason. Change it and it is no longer a classic. It's right up there with colorizing black and white movies or adding new computer-generated effects to the original Star Wars film.
