Does anyone know when the new pirate theme pool/play area will be open at the HOJO? I've looked on the website and can't seem to find this information.

We stayed there for the first time last weekend and enjoyed Speedy's Sprayground alot! DS's 3 and almost 1 loved it. Can't wait to try the new Pirate one when it opens.

Also, I need that darn list that has the open days for the ENT rate available. I can't seem to find it from the last time I asked. :rolleyes1

The sprayground is still open? I thought they had already begun construction on the pirate pool. Was the pool outside of building 2 open?

We are checking in Sunday and HOPE the sprayground is still open. We will have 4 kids under the age of 6 with us!

I was told they are aiming for mid-july for it to be open!

Yes, it was still open as of Sunday. The signs are posted that they are going to be upgrading to the pirate theme but I didn't see any construction whatsoever. The pool outside bldg 2 was not open but it looked like it could open any day. Had fresh water in it and all so I'm sure it will be opening soon.

I talked to Lorealle on Friday and asked about the opening date of the Pirate pool. She said that they are waiting on the city of Anaheim to approve the permit. Without the permit they cannot begin work. She was hoping to have the permit by now.

We arrive July 7, and I am doubtful the pool will be ready. Lorealle did not say it wouldn't be ready by then (as they would love for it to be ready by the July 4 weekend) but did say that a delay in getting the permit will mean a delay in beginning of construction and therefore a delay in the pool being finished.

But Lorealle still considers the pool construction to be on schedule.

Boo hoo! Mid July is now the date they are saying? They couldn't get the garden pool open on time and that was a much smaller project. I have very little faith the pirate pool or the hot tub will be open by my trip in mid July.

I guess I have learned a lesson here. Next time, before I book a room, call the hotel and ask about any construction planned prior and during my stay.

Always a good plan :)

I am sure HoJo wished they had any control over the permit process....but they don't. Bureaucracy at it's finest I am sure.

Hmmm...interesting. We arrive Saturday so I doublechecked with Lorealle...the Sprayground and pool is scheduled to close tomorrow May 1 or this weekend...as soon as the city can be by to inspect the new pool and it can open. Waaah! Selfish me, I was hoping I'd get both pools based on bureaucratic snafus! Oh well. Exciting that they can move on with the Pirate plans, and we can be some of the first in the new and improved garden pool!

Trust me on this one- if you are looking for the person that is most frustrated by all of the endless postponing- it's me!

Not only am I just anxious to see the finished Castaway Cove, but it's also really frustrating to keep giving you all timelines and being fairly certain about them, and then have it pushed back because of things that none of us at the Hotel can control!

Still, I'm staying positive- as I know that all of you are [Thank you so much for all your great feedback and encouragement through it all!] - and just focusing on how amazing the new area is going to be, and how much better it will serve all of you and your families during your stays with us! pirate:

But Hojo's can control when they schedule a major rennovation. The logic behind doing a major pool rennovation during the peak summer time when pool usage is at its highest and room rates are at their highest really escapes me. :confused3

I really hope they can keep the project on track and get it done in 2 months!

good point, but knowing So Cal weather.....June is not nearly as nice as Sept, so I can see a May/june closure worth it being done for Sept and on as opposed to waiting another year. But I understand your frustration.

I really do hope I'll be on here in late July telling you all just how fantastic the new pool rennovations are! LOL!

I'm going to be hoping and praying that the crew is working 24x7 to get the pirate area done ON TIME!

Maybe some of you that are being effected by the delay from the City of Anaheim should contact the city directly and put a little pressure on them?

Well, already Hojo's is singing a different tune. It's now "conservatively" late July. So, there goes my time in the hot tub. :headache:

Not happy about this at all. Especially if they will be nearly done and I'll have to drag a very disappointed DD by a nearly finished pirate ship and explain why we can't go on it or in the hot tub until next year. Maybe.

I keep telling myself "you got a good rate, be glad about that." I'm not sure what I'll be telling myself as I make that long walk back to Hojo's at the end of the night knowing there's no hot tub to use.

We were at the HoJo last week and they had already gutted the pool...it's just a big pile of dirt now. We did make the trek to the Garden Pool and it's very nice, very cold, and went practically unused. It's too bad they can't jack the heat up in that thing since there is no hot tub! The weather wasn't the nicest pool weather last week. We ended up taking really really hot showers after our time in the pool!! Oh well. It really is a bummer that they couldn't have done this work in Jan-Feb-March...but the late summer and fall in SoCal will probably be nicer than it is right now!

That's sad to hear. I thought the garden pool was supposed to be heated. I hope it warms up before we get there in two weeks.

Well it's HEATED...just pretty darn chilly to me...and no hot tub to complement it! A few more degrees would have been nice. Remember, the weather was cool and not so good so I'm sure on a hot day it would have been fine.

We just checked out of HOJO's this morning.

Our first day there, May 4th, the pool was FREEZING cold. Our 2 year olds lips turned purple quickly. Most of the kids were making their own "spray playground" in the warm, outdoor showers and avoided the pool :)

By that evening, the pool was a lot warmer! They may have turned the heat up, because there was a significant change in temp from noon until 8pm. It was in regular use the whole time we were there.

I have some photos of the pool construction that I can upload later. The new pool looks like it's going to extend into the old parking lot and be much bigger. Can't wait to see it finished!
