They are testing a new photopass technology which you stnd still and a light bar moves past you.

Makes a fireworks background in this test. Ill post images of the tech and final pic when i get home.

If your in mk. They are in the back between ariel and big top. You cant miss the team of people doing it.

Interested in seeing the results. I love all of the Memory Maker stuff, hope this is a part of that. For me Memory Maker is one of the best(only?) bargains Disney has going.

I'm back home finally and since I'm no longer on a mobile device I can go into a little more detail... So this is a new technology they were trying for the first time. There was a few execs (I think), a few photopass people and a few guys I assume made the technology. Nobody had a name (I did ask) for what the technology or they are thinking of calling it.

Basically there is a light bar and as it moves leds light up in sequence.

This was being manually pushed behind you while you stood very still. Basically it took 1 flash photo, the bar moved and a second flash photo and it was safe to move...

Here is the family in front of me doing it:

It was also a rather dark location of MK so a little blurry to take a photo with colors changing and moving. I regret not getting a video before I left but maybe someone going tomorrow can be on the look out for this in the back near the big top gift shop but closer to ariel's grotto and behind 7dmt.

When done this is the photo I took with my daughter (and I look miserable, it was brutal hot out today)

remember this is a test and it was during the 4th of july evenings (3rd in my case) so they did a fireworks background.

memory maker is a flat rate download package, every photo and ride video is considered photopass.

Interesting. I actually don't care for it as it's such a fake looking fireworks. It reminds me of the backdrops the photographers always brought around for school pictures, lol.

But maybe the other options will be better.

Thanks for posting and explaning what they have been testing so far. Thanks also for the photos. Exciting! Wexhave an AP so any new additions are welcome!

That's my thought as well but it was a good backdrop for the testing over july 4th weekend. you also had to discover they were out, they picked a spot very few people would wander by at night but anyone that did the amount of staff that was out caught our attention and we all stopped to see what was going on.

I see many options to open up for this. Kind of neat.

yeah, I think it has possibilities but you do have to be still for a good 10 seconds and not sure how well kids will handle that. maybe with some automation they can get the bar to move automatically much faster like at an indoor photo op.

The result was far from what I would expect from Disney... that looks like something that might be produced from a local carnival.

I think it was a fair first test though.. I've never seen something introduced like this before so I think they are on the fence asking themselves the same question. a poster of fireworks probably would yield the same result so i'm wondering what else they are considering with it.

I like the idea of the fireworks backdrop and the general concept, but they need to tune up the quality a good bit to get it up to Disney standards. I am interested to see where all this goes.

I did this as well and thought it was really cool.
Not sure what people are expecting when they say it needs to be a higher quality - it's a long exposure photo using a 1in light panel to create an image. The technology can only do so much.

So its basically light painting?

I dont really see the point. I guess you have to stand extremely still for quite a long time for this to give any kind of acceptable image?

Why not just stand you in front of a green screen instead?

Very similar to light painting. I think we stood for may 3 seconds? It took no more effort to take this photo than any other one.
And a green screen would be problematic because you would then have to exclude anyone who is wearing the same/similar color from taking a photo
