I am looking for suggestions on where to stay on an upcoming, KID-FREE  weekend. My husband has booked us a room at Le Pavillion. Has anyone stayed here? What did you think? Tell me about your favorite places to stay when you visit New Orleans and why they are your favorite. I am still trying to figure out where I would like to stay. Thanks!!!

You ought to have a great time. Le Pavillion is a nice hotel, and it's got a decent location.

Here's the one restaurant you need to visit: Irene's Cuisine at 539 Saint Philip St. It's a "locals" place, but it's got great food. They don't take reservations, so you need to get there early (unless you want to wait 2 - 3 hours for a table-- and people do).

Also, here's the other piece of "locals" advice. Cafe Du Monde is a "coffee shop" in Jackson Square. You'll sometimes see tourists lining up down the block to get a table. That's not how it works. If you see an open table, just go sit down. There is no line. Ignore the glares from the people in line. You're not cutting. You just know the rules and they don't.

Glad to see people coming to New Orleans... if you listen to the stupid media, it's still a destroyed mess from Hurricane Katrina. If you stay in the tourist areas, you'd never even know a hurricane came through.

I was their 2 weeks ago. While I was disappointed in how rundown Bourbon St. has become, I was introduced to Frenchman's street which reminds me of the Bourbon street I remember from years ago. Lots of Jazz spots and very friendly. DW and I took the tour on Segways and thought it was fantastic. It was well worth it.

We love New Orleans and have been lucky enough to go twice since Katrina. DisCopper, I keep telling people it's really OK to go!! LOL!

We always try to stay here: Place D'Armes : New Orleans, Louisiana : French Quarter

It's usually really affordable and has the best location for walking to everything!! I've heard great things about La Pavillion too!

My best advice is to go with the flow. Since you can walk pretty much everywhere, it's fun to just wander and do whatever grabs your attention and interest. Talk to your concierge and tell them the kinds of things you are interested in. They can point you in the right direction.

For kicks, we like to take the haunted tours. They are entertaining and you get to learn a little about the history and legends of the city.
