So who's been to Mardi Gras. I really want to go next year and the best friend and I need some names of hotels that are

1) close enough to Burbon St to walk

2) kinda safe area... :)

Thhhhhhhanks :)

Well I'm from that area, so I never stayed in hotels, but here's what I can recall.

I've wanted to stay in Hotel Monteleone. It's in the quarter but I think rather expensive.

There is a Westin that is very nice and in an open area. It is in the Canal Place (mall) building, and I used to park in their parking garage whenever I would drive down to the quarter by myself, so I've felt very safe there (well as safe as you can feel in the city). It's right by the river.

I stayed at a Ramada hotel once when I locked my keys in the car in that Westin parking lot. It was less expensive but still very nice and close.

There's a big Days Inn on Canal where a lot of the parades go. I've stood outside that hotel for parades before. It's in an open & safe area, right on the edge of the quarter.

That's all I can think of. I'm sure you can get better info from actual Mardi Gras tourists, but it's a start.

I'm planning on going this coming year too, as long as I can get off from work. Maybe we can have a Mardi Gras mini-meet! I do, however, boycott Bourbon Street during Mardi Gras. That's not my scene at all.

Megs - If you want to go for MG 2003 - you better make ressies NOW! It gets pretty packed there - Do a google search on Mardi Gras - there are whole sites devoted to it - just like our Disney sites - great sources of info...

I stayed at a very nice hotel close to Bourbon Street called the Queen & Cresent. Very nice hotel and is very affordable. A couple of blocks away from Bourbon Street but in walking range. Had a parking garage (which we used valet so we never saw it) and never used the car till we left. We walked to everything. Hotel staff was great! Gave us a large selection of places to go and "safe" places to go. I highly recommend this hotel because it was nice and affordable. Call fast because people make reservations early for that time of the year! Hope that helps you out! Have fun!!!!!!!!!

There's a Hilton, whic is on the Mississippi River, but still not a far walk from the French Quarter. We have stayed at The Fairmont, which is a beautiful hotel. It's across Canal St. from the French Quarter.
