New one sheet Personal Navigators - Update: Mixed reports currently, what is your recent experience?

I haven't read through all the posts but just reporting from the Disney Magic that left NYC on 10/2 we had the full Navigators on day one. For the last two days, single page inserts and not a full set.

Heather, thanks for the info! So, it seems to be a mixed bag and they are still testing maybe. Your magic cruise was the one after the Members Cruise if I understand dates correctly...

I wonder what people from the Dream are reporting...

Definitely seems like a mixed bag I'll try to remember to ask about it!

Just reporting back that although I didn't ask about the Navigators, the rest of the cruise was indeed only one page Navigators. It didn't impact us at all and I used the app on the phone for 90% of it, but I understand others don't and they prefer the paper Navigators.

Thanks for the report! That is disappointing. I wonder whether this is still testing mode... I think I will change the title to call out for more recent experiences. Will be interesting how the changed itineraries were being handled.

Was on the same cruise. We received the full Navigator on the first day and the single sheet every day afterward. At first I was sceptical but discovered everything I needed was on the single sheet: daily schedule of activities and events, ship directory with locations and hours, daily specials, character appearances, dining and lounge hours and locations, dining attire, weather forecast, and even the port agent's contact information.

I liked it!

I used the app to select "favorite" activities so that I'd receive reminders, and to check the dinner menus. Otherwise I didn't have much use for it.

We have had those on the Dream this week and I've really liked them (I thought I wouldn't). With all of the changes the app hasn't been right a lot and today we got a "weird" one for the morning and those of us staying will get another one for the night after we get off, clear customs, and get back on.

Off the Magic yesterday (5 night to Canada). We had a full Navigator on day 1 and then the 1 sheet Navigator the rest of the trip. We also received a shopping guide/map for the ports. I was sad not to have the full Navigator to read before going to bed and there were some things you could not find without using the app (like drink of the day). I don't think they can or should get rid of paper completely for those who do not have smart phones (like kids and maybe older people). My daughter (12) carries the Navigator around with her to keep up on where the family crafts are and what is going on in Edge.

Because heaven forbid we don't get the location of Diamonds International or Del Sol. :sad2: :sad2: :sad2:

Seriously...stop that silliness and give me my full Navigator!!

Same here. I would give the hard copy Navigator a glance at night and then use the app from then on. Can't say I missed a multi page Navigator at all.

I guess the field is quite split there. While some don't miss it, others do miss it very much. I have never carried on any beverage on a DCL ship, so the change in the alcohol carry on policy did not bother me at all. But I was able to understand that it was an issue for others.

We were on the last Mediterranean cruise & WBTA with single page navigators. We used a combo of paper and the app. We did witness a problem at one activity and learned something important. The App had an error with animation classes, showing Pluto first then Stitch when it was the other way around. Some people came to the second class and were very mad that it wasn't what they thought. The CM tried to explain, even telling them of another Stitch class later in the afternoon. The people were extremely rude, delaying the start of class and forcing the CM to call the assistant cruise director for backup.
The paper Navigator is law no matter if it's a single page or booklet.

I brought at least three home with me. I'm going to compare and contrast them when I get a minute.

Looking over what I have, the difference I see is that there are no "ads" on the single page. And by that I mean 1/8 spaces for Match your Mate or Senses Spa Rainforest passes. Or an entire column devoted to shopping and by that I mean only the Diamond Trunk Show and the Art Gallery. Also, there is a more detailed description for some activities on the old Navigator. I can see why some would miss that, but it is all on the app.
I understand that people don't like change. But if things stayed the same we'd be reading our Navigator from a cave wall, carved with primitive pictures of pirates and princesses. :bitelip:

One thing I noted is that the one day sheets don't start until 8am or 8:30am. How would you ever find out about the early morning fitness classes, if you don't have the app?

I think upgrading to a new technology is one thing, but unless everyone is able to use the new technology it is not a good service to discontinue the old one. Even at the parks they installed terminals for those without the app to make FP+ there and then.

The Magic to Canada (the one that was supposed to go there, not the one that got changed to go there) was my first DCL so obviously my only experience with the navigator.

The one page worked absolutely fine for me. I think anything else would've been a waste of paper. I did fold it up and carry it with me everyday, I preferred the paper to the map. The first day had all the information I felt I needed (descriptions of the "special" performers was really all I felt I needed). The others at our table seemed to prefer the app.

Yeah, there may have been stuff without thorough descriptions, but not enough that I couldn't figure out whether or not it was something I wanted to do - or something my son wanted to do. We may not know what "Avengers Academy" is exactly, but it's enough for us to guess.

I'd be bummed to not have a paper anything, but one page was more than enough.

I haven't read through these posts so please forgive me. We just got home form the "8" night Fantasy Western Caribbean cruise and had the full navigators each night. I was actually surprised.

That is great news, thank you!!

So, the Magic is one sheet currently it seems, the Fantasy is full navigators. Interesting!

Any reports from the Dream??? Where are the Dream cruisers???

On the Dream 5-6 night cruise that started on 10/3/2016, they had a full navigator on embarkation day, and 1-sheet navigators the rest of the week, with two unique and separate navigators on disembarkation day 10/8/2016, one to cover our time until late arrival into port, and one for the evening for those staying overnight on "Hotel Dream."

As much as I liked the full navigators, our family do find using the app more and more to choose our favorite activities and getting alerts... so long as the information is accurate.
