*** New Official February 2013 Thread ***

The crane was up last time we were there in Sept. too. Why don't they just decorate it like a bean stalk or something to fit in and leave it there all the time?
We are hoping for some family pics in the am when we go for breakfast at CP on the 10th.

that is actually so stupid. why are they just taking the lights down now?? and why is it going to take so long? is that is the only reason for the crane? i am tempted to cancel my early morning ADRs because the whole point was to have nice castle pictures but now they will be ruined anyways!!

does anyone know if there is a good place to take pics of the castle where the angle would not show the crane? i am literally crushed.

When we were there before they were building the hotel suite in e castle and there was no way to avoid the crane in the shots. Not sure about the light takedown, and yeah it seems excessive.

i've been doing a lot of reading, like A LOT, and i am just wondering something now. what is the point of EMH if everyone avoids them like the plague? i'm starting to wonder why disney doesn't just cancel them altogether because practically everyone on here says STAY AWAY!!!! and i was totally pumped to stay at a disney resort so i could take advantage of them! (which i am anyways, because my days are all planned out and it's too late to change!)

does anyone actually have anything good to say about EMH? i'd like some positive feedback LOL

Melissarose,
all of my park days are planned on EMH days, we have never experienced a big difference either way. I have not been to DW during peak season so I could not answer for those times of the year but during off season I do not find a difference. We utilize EMH each visit.

I have been there when the crane was there, last January it was up. I can easily photoshop it, but I know not everyone knows how to do that. If you go to the LEFT of the castle, you should be able to get an angle that hides it (think over in the Crystal Palace area or the bridge into Frontierland...) but, you won't find photopass photographers over there, so not sure if that will help you.

ALSO...if you get a shot on mainstreet with photopass, with the castle pretty far in the background, there would be a chance that you wouldn't be able to see it too much. Do you know anyone that knows how to use an editing program? It takes me about 3 minutes for each picture, to remove it.

Maybe we will be in the same Cars building. Maybe we will be in line together at the parks... Wishes? Fantasmic? H&V?

Awesome! Will you have a lime green Mickey head on you to say you are part of the Dis? I have to print one out or something. I will be the one with 2 boys and a baby girl in a stroller with my husband and MIL. Look for me! :)

Hubby and I will be staying at the All Star Music. I am glad I am not going with first timers since the crane will obviously be in the way of a lot of photo ops. I was adjusting to have to miss Splash Mountain and Kali River Rapids :). Cannot wait either way though - there is still plenty of magic to be found!

Great tips!! Thanks so much!

And I'd rather have a picture with a crane than not be there at all!! :-)

We will be going too Mardi Gras Week , DH, DS (13), DS (16), me, sister, and her boyfriend! Feb 10-15 and will be celebrating my birthday, Mardi Gras, Valentine's Day, and my sister's first visit....so excited. Staying at POR Royal room, and eating in the castle on my birthday. All of our dining is booked, and I am getting a mini cake, and slipper dessert...This will be our fifth trip as a family.princess:

A crane is scheduled to be onsite at the Magic Kingdom's Cinderella Castle from 22 January through to 10 February 2013 for removal of the dream lights used during the holidays.

Maybe they will finish early. :scratchin

My daughter can photoshop out the crane. Let's hope it isn't dead center in front of the castle. Maybe we should haunt the January thread to see if they post any pictures of it. ;)

It sounds like a wonderful way to celebrate your birthday.:cheer2:

We'll be there 2-10. This will be trip #18 for me. I think I enjoy the planning and anticipation more than the actual trip itself, but I'm still super excited. I think I'll ditch my husband super bowl sunday and go to the MK instead. Who's with me!

The big part was behind or beside the castle, but the arm could definitely be seen during the day. At night they usually hid the arm behind the back part of the castle.

What app are you using which tells fast pass availability? The one I have (WDW Waits, I think) just has wait times.

Disney's actual app (when it wants to load) has wait times and FP availability on it. You can also do a search of FP and do a break down of how long waits are. It's actually kind of neat when it works.

I've been checking out the parks on the days we plan hitting the parks to get an idea of wait times and such.
