2/12 – VMK Central at Disneyland gets a makeover, plus how to get a VMK room makeover! New reward cards are announced and we've moved our office - all in this edition of Yavn Speaks!

We've Moved!

After a week in the new place, we've unpacked most of our boxes and are finally settling into our new office location. While there are a few things that need to be worked out, the new building is very nice (and location still top secret) - so if you didn't see any of the team in the game over the last few days it's because of all this moving craziness.

Central Changes & Rewards Reworked
VMK HQ is not the only thing that changed last week, VMK Central at Disneyland also got a facelift! As you can see from the pic below, the kiosk now has the same look and style as VMK.com! If you've visited the VMK Central at Disneyland in the last week you've not only noticed the new color scheme, but that we're also showing off 4 new cards there!

If you visited VMK Central in Tomorrowland at Disneyland last week, you may have noticed something new – a new look and new reward cards!
In addition to everything else that's getting an overhaul, we're introducing a new reward system in both Parks. Starting soon we'll offer a new prize for completing multiple Park Quests (at both Disneyland and the Magic Kingdom) – like one of our new Limited Edition Mickey Furniture Reward Cards! These are extremely limited cards that will only be available seasonally. How's that work? Well, we'll launch the Limited Edition set with the Winter Mickey Mouse Window - this card will be available until Spring, when it will be replaced with a new seasonal reward card – and remember Limited Edition means just that – once the season is gone, the Limited Edition card that goes with it will be gone for good too.
In all, there are 4 Mickey Furniture cards and each one is themed for a specific season. The Limited Edition set also features a special 'foil' and of course each one has a code that can be redeemed for the virtual item on the card.

The picture here doesn't do these cards justice – but trust me, they look awesome.
And we've got more cool changes and new reward cards on the way too, plus for our Disneyland Guest, don't forget we're still running the Fast Pass program. Stay tuned, I'll have more info on these Limited Edition cards very soon!

Room Makeovers - VMK Style
Also this week we're bringing back an old VMK favorite, VMK Room Makeovers! Would you like to have one of our VMK Experts help you turn you room into a hot spot? Just send us a note and tell us about a room (your's or someone else's) that's worthy of a makeover. Our secret room makeover agents will also be making the rounds secretly looking for rooms that need a makeover. Either way, each week we'll pick some rooms for a makeover and show you the results in an upcoming newsletter.

Lost Your Character? More About Deleted Accounts

As I mentioned a while back, we have started deleting inactive accounts, in particular accounts that have been inactive for 6 months or more. You may have noticed this yourself if you logged on and found your account was gone. If you did, we're sorry, but we did warn players.
A few of you have requested your deleted account and player name back – sorry, once the accounts are deleted from the system they can not be brought back. We even reset the deleted player name. I bring this up again so you remember if you plan to be away from VMK for a while, you should still check in every now and then so you don't loose your character.

Hey Waiter!

Just a heads up, Haley & Jake aren't the only ones who know the 'Secret Word' to get service from the Gator Waiter in the Blue Bayou - check around, there are plenty of other 'characters' in the game that know how to get the Gator Waiter's attention!

Service with a smile in the Blue Bayou - a big toothy, gator smile that is.

That's a Wrap!

Well I hope you enjoyed the first week of February Fun Days, don't forget get extra credit by playing Haunted Mansion on Tuesday and Castle Fireworks remix on Thursday! You never know when a little extra bling may come in handy. Also I should mention the first VMK Race day is coming up this weekend, February 18th. So grab your driving helmet and race on over (it's a bad pun I know, but at least I didn't tell you to get in gear for VMK Race Day… on second thought, just scratch both of those puns).
What else? The new office is pretty cool, I'll try to get you some pics of it in upcoming Yavn Speaks blogs, I think Darth Vader designed the lights! Ok time to go, we gotta wrap up the Epcot Quest… word on the street is it may be ready to kick off next week… Stay tuned!

See you in VMK!

Wow! Sounds good overall.

Though, for me personally, as a card collector AND someone who doesn't get to go to the parks often, I'm not liking these seasonal cards. It's going to be so difficult to get a complete collection. But the cards do look awesome and the premise behind them is smart.

Seasonal cards?! Awww man! Now even our once a year trip to WDW won't be enough!

Well, actually, maybe I can use this to my advantage..... :rolleyes1 :lmao:

OKAY.

I pride myself by keeping my DISboards negative/sarcastic comments to a minimum, but I just have to comment about the "Room Makeover"....

I was laughing my behind off about it! Wow, look at all that rare furniture!! Honestly, every piece of furniture in that room is free except for the fire window (which might be argued to be free since it is gift with pin purchase or old pirate quest) and those expensive campfires!! I for one am not impressed! Although if they want to give me those items I GUESS I wouldn't say no...:rotfl:

And I'm sad that they put the new cards out at VMK central after I had left Disney.

I wish I could talk my husband into a trip to Disneyland 4 times a year to get the seasonal cards. I seriously doubt he'll go for it. I've almost talked him into a yearly trip. This might be pushing it a bit far for him. :faint:

That's part of the point of seasonal cards. To get people into the parks at least once a season instead of once a year. ;)

I will be more difficult to get these cards and items. :( They're coming out with more and more harder to get items and my poor wish list just seems to keep growing instead of getting smaller. :(

Yeah, I know, and I fully support that idea of going once a season....unfortunately my checking account doesn't seem to agree. :lmao:

What's the Walt Disney World VMK Central? Chopped liver? (Eh, I wouldn't doubt it lol).

They should be giving the central in WDW a facelife, heck...everyone who's been knows exactly what I mean lol. Erm..right? I don't know, maybe I just over analyze things, but perhaps a fresh print of letters on the keyboards would be good. Then we might actually see what the letters are... ;)

I suppose they figure you don't need to see the letters, because the computers are always down :( I would love it if we had a "cave" here, like at DLR, with real computers people could actually use!

Seasonal cards. Cool idea.

No way I'll be able to get to WDW to get them. But I'm glad different people have different things, it makes VMK more interesting. I don't have to own every item to enjoy seeing them. Try to be zen about it, people. ;)

Not only do you have to go for every season , but from what I read out of it, these cards are going to be an extra reward for doing multiple in park quests. This means you will have to do all the other quests in the park, turn them in with correct answers and if you are lucky and get someone at the desk that knows something, you "may" be given this as a reward. Then again you "may" not.:rolleyes1.

That is the idea I got to! But I do believe the terms would more likely be chopped gator! :lmao: Hmm wonder if the cards will be at WDW also or just DLR. With the words limited, that could refer to just being seasonal or being seasonal at just DLR. ARG!

Seasonal cards! Ugh, not liking that at all.

For those of us who are "lucky" enough to get to the parks once a year, well, we will be lucky to get one of the four seasonal cards. That puts those close to the parks in a great position to collect the entire set and trade big!! Yes, there will be those who are generous and help the many who cannot make it on a regular basis but the majority will want some pretty rare items I can only imagine. Now, don't bash me, it is just my opinion and it is an opinion that is formed from what I have seen happen in the past with "limited items".

Ugh VMK ~ not liking it at all.

Disclaimer: This was a personal opinion and not intended to offend anyone.

I have not seen VMK central at DLR ~ although I will see it this Saturday, YAY ~ but I know the one at WDW is small and the few computers they have are always down. Why can't the make a nice place at WDW rather than overhaul the DLR location.

I only join VMK last week. I am extremely impressed. My room looks like the first room. I like everything in it but it has next to nothing. You may not need a room make over but someone who is new would be thrilled with a room make over. I think the room make over is a great thing they are doing and I for one hope VMK finds my room.

I wasn't here for previous room makeovers, but I think it's really nice that they would do this. Who cares if it's rare stuff, which some of it is. Think of all the kids, the age the game was designed for :rolleyes1 (dis people don't count in the general age population, hehe). My girls sure could use help with room design. In fact most of the time I could use help with room design. This isn't to help the rich get richer, it's to help those incapable feel good about something of their own as a basic gathering place. Even for those of us who travel to Disneyland on a regular basis, these cards will be tricky to get. Remember that we can only turn in quests every 90 days so if you don't time it right, you may miss out on a card completely because of their limited availability.

However, if you have multiple passholders in your family I guess you could rotate who turns in the quests so that there is no overlap. You may get all the cards in the set but fewer duplicates.

Or, for the bold, approach other visitors to the park and talk them into using their ticket media to redeem the quests....

Much to think about that's for sure.:headache:

All I know is that I have to have that window and the couch - I love them!

PS - whoever posted that they noticed the seasons in the backgrounds of the cards is very perceptive - good for you.

I don't see the problem, here. That's exactly how we got either the
Haunted Mansion quest or original Pirate quest. And those nifty VIP
badges. If you completed the multiple quests, you were eligible for the
tour and bonus quest items.

I'm glad they are returning to this feature.
