Help, new to this. I am a DCL fan thinking of taking a non-cruise vacation in October or January to Aulani. I have been looking at the possibility of renting points through David's Vacation Club rentals. I am really confused on the transient accommodation tax.

The stay requires 108 points for 6 nights. The chart shows 4.08 for the tax. Isn't it more complicated than this? For some reason I was thinking they wanted 4.08 per point, but that seems high. I think I might be making this more complicated.

Thoughts or experiences with this? Thanks in advance

Thank you to whoever switched my post to the correct board :) I posted it to food by mistake....I must have been hungry

The tax is based on points used per night of your stay. So the $4+ number you found is per night of your stay. I don't have personal experience, yet, but have researched this myself for our upcoming trip. Here is the chart that shows price per night, approximate because this is still the 2013 chart.

So figure out when you are staying, and what type of room and view. Then that cost multiplied by the number of nights is your transient tax. Hope that helps!

Thanks, so for a 7 night stay it would be around $30 for the whole trip? Where is the catch with renting DVC points? This is going to save us almost $1000! Anyone have personal experience with this they would like to share?

I think the catch with renting DVC points is that usually they are non-refundable. We rented points to stay at Saratoga Springs a few years ago, we rented from a private person and it all turned out ok...but if we would have had to cancel, we couldn't have gotten our money back.

We are also considering renting points for Aulani--I think the difficult thing is that sometimes points don't become available to rent until 7 months prior to your stay.
