Hi, I've been lurking on the boards for awhile and have finally decided to post. I am a big Disney fan, but have only been able to visit WDW once, and that was 10 years ago! :guilty: Anyway, I'm thinking of trying to convince my husband to go for our anniversary. I'm needing ideas on how to convince him he would have a good time. He is not a Disney fan, does not hate it, but wouldn't choose to spend his vacation at WDW. He is pretty much a homebody who rarely likes to leave the limits of our county. He also does not like crowds, though we've been to Vegas twice and he really liked it both times, so I think he could deal with them okay at Disney. He is also NOT a ride person, I'd be going solo on them, so I'm looking for things we can do together so he isn't wishing he were someplace else!

TIA and sorry this is so long.

Welcome to Dis!! As for convincing your husband...maybe he will go for you and chances are he will have a great time! :)

My dh never shows enthusiasm about any upcoming trips but always has a good time when we are there.

Goodluck

If he doesn't enjoy rides, perhaps you should focus on shows. There are so many good shows for you to enjoy together.

He might also enjoy World Showcase where he can get a taste of many different countries in a relatively small area.

Good luck!!

Is he an eater? Focus on food! Is he a sports fan? Focus on sports stuff like maybe a spring training Braves game or golfing or a fishing expedition.

My soon-to-be-ex-husband always complained about going to Disney, wanted to do something else, but now that I am going in December with dd and he's not he's all "oh, I can't believe I am not going to see the fireworks" and "oh, you're eating there, I am jealous". Guess he liked Disney after all - too bad he didn't figure that out sooner!

My DFi wasn't too thrilled about going to Disney World (he's never been) until he saw all the neat stuff there is besides rides and characters. He is really looking forward to playing golf, going to DisneyQuest, attending a Cirque de Soleil show and going to the Spa for a relaxing day. He was really concerned that he wouldn't have time to relax but I was able to fit it into our schedule. If your husband likes sports, I'm sure he would enjoy Disney's Wide World of Sports, if he likes to dance or if he likes Comedy, check out Pleassure Island. If he likes to eat, then there's Epcot and all the other wonderful restaurants around the World (i.e. California Grill). Hope this helps somewhat. Good luck!

WELCOME TO THE DIS - hope you get to take your trip at your convenience

Thanks for the warm welcome! My husband has agreed to go somewhere for our anniversary, so now I just have to figure out how to suggest Disney. He loves to eat, so maybe I will take the advice of going with the food angle! I also think he'd probably enjoy some of the shows, so please toss out your faves.

There is so much for you two to do there. Just tell how much it would mean to you for him to go. If he is an outdoorsy guy The Wilderness Lodge would be a great choice. I am sure once he sees how enthusiastic you are about going he will warm up to the idea. Good Luck!!

Welcome and good luck with your husband  :Pinkbounc

Fantasmic!

Indiana Jones (yeah, people think it's cheesy, but I like it and if you've never seen it, it can be good.)

Lights! Camera! Motors! Stunt show spectacular. I saw it in Paris and thought it was really well done and now that it's at WDW, I'm hoping it's just as good.

Other faves: Muppets 3D, the Drew Carey show at Disney Studios, It's a Bugs Life at Animal Kingdom. (And do not miss the Safari at Animal Kingdom!!)

Welcome to the Dis.

How about, "Honey, it is time to start thinking about our Anniversary. What ideas do you have?" (listen here) :) "Well, you know what I would like to do? I would like to go to WDW and live like we did when we were young and had so few responsibilites. Doesn't that sound like fun?"

Or you could just say...."I want to go to WDW. If you do not want to go, I can always get my boyfriend to go." :rotfl2:

I think you should ask him if he has any ideas wher he might like to go. Then suggest that he watch this "movie". Go onto the Disney website and get the Disney planning kit, that may help to convince him too. The DVD has all kinds of information about WDW. Mine already like going!
Good Luck!!
:cheer2:

Oh there are so many things for a couple to do that wouldn't involve riding the rides in the parks. You could rent a pontoon boat and go fishing or just cruise. Book a fireworks cruise. Walk to beach around the Seven Seas Lagoon! NICE DINNERS with great atmosphere....Le Cellier and the Coral Reef are my personal favorites. Rent one of those car looking bikes I think they are called Surey bikes at the Boardwalk! Atlantic Dance and Jelly Rolls at the Boardwalk are also a great night out. Do a carriage ride at the Wilderness Lodge. Check out www.disneyworld.com and search ROMANCE. It's even fun to just sit and watch the fireworks or parades and MAKE A WISH together! Gosh I love Disney!

I think you need to just print out some information on the Richard Petty Racing program and leave it on the kitchen table..."Oh, yea..I was going to throw that away since you aren't intrested in going to WDW...right?" :rotfl: :rotfl:
http://allearsnet.com/btp/petty.htm There's also tons of stuff that he might ne intrested in: Who wants to be a Millionair Game, Lunch with an Imagineer, shows, fireworks, great dining, boat rentals, golf, there's a great Harley Davison Dealership not far away, and I think you can rent motorcycles. There's way more to do than just go to parks and do rides (although that is my favorite part)

Definitely pitch the food angle! When I went last year, I didn't have any bad food for the entire 5 days. I also managed to have the single most expensive meal of my entire life (at Cali. Grill) and it was worth every penny.
As much of a rides person (read: adrenaline junkie) as I am, I've also got a soft spot for the 3D shows, especially Muppetvision and Honey I Shrunk the Audience.
You might want to get a decent guidebook to let him see all the non-ride and more grown-up things available to do. Leave it in his favorite chair. There are very few people who aren't curious enough to at least skim through a travel book when they find one like that.
I'm not really much of an overall Disney fan either, but I love WDW!

Good Luck!

Eliz

You didn't mention when your anniversary is, but in October is the food and wine tasting at Epcot. That is a very cool thing to do in the World Showcase. Also you have Halloween parties and activities going on. End of November and December you have the Christmas parties and activities. Does he enjoy water parks? The time of year you are planning on will determine some of the activities you can participate in.

Good Luck, I'll send pixie dust your way!! :wizard:
