New name for Disney-MGM Studios announced?

Because Walt Disney Studios, or Disney Studios for short, is located in Burbank, CA. And Walt Disney Studios Park, or Disney Studios Park for short, is located in Paris.
Okay, and there are Disneylands in California, Paris, Tokyo and Hong Kong. So?

Yes. Disneyland. Disneyland Paris. Disneyland Tokyo. Disneyland Hong Kong. See how they're all differentiating themselves? Calling the WDW park simply "Disney Studios" in no way differentiates it from Disney Studios in Burbank. A case could be made that the Burbank studio is actually named Walt Disney Studios, but it's been going by the shorter name for decades. Again, they could have called the park "Disney Studios Florida" if they wanted to. But is that really any easier to say than "Disney's Hollywood Studios?" :confused3

Boy Disney really hit this one out of the park two pages of post and most of them concern the name change of the Park...and not the underwelming attraction annoucment that went with it. Disney really is on a roll they can't even get the rose colored glasses folks excited about these lame "additions" now.

too many pixar things at the outher parks might get mom and pop a bit confused.Wheres buzz lightyear ride, finding nemo, turtle crush and Monsters Inc laugh floor were in pixar park. What there not here but the name on gate says pixar park
Paulh

Adding to this, I wonder about how bad it is to have different parks with the same theme (Nemo in 2 different parks, etc.)

on the one hand it would be better if they were in the same park, however if the story is similar, that may also seem redundant.

What's wrong with the name Disney Studios? Short, sweet, accurate.

Disney has a good amount of plans for MGM, how many that will actually go through is another thing but they have plans for it.

Ratatouille-themed clone of DSP’s Crush Coaster. The mostly-indoor Crush coaster at Disney Studios-Paris enjoys a great reputation and will be cloned at Pixar Place, likely with a Ratatouille theme. Earlier ideas included Monsters Inc. (specifically, the doors factory), but that appears shelved for now.

Star Tours revision. Anthony Daniels made unofficial mention in an interview of doing work for this attraction, to open in 2009, so it seems all but certain. Polarized glasses will be used for a 3-D effect, and some rumors call for three Audio-Animatronics figures. If reports are true, an IMAX screen may also be used, with the front and top of the simulator at times opening up to see the larger screen.

E-Ticket in Disney-MGM by 2010. Cast Members have been told to expect a new E-Ticket ride in 2010, though it's not clear if this means the Star Tours rehab or a whole new attraction. Alternate reports make mention of a major project for 2008 and another one for 2009, indicating that even if Star Tours is one of the rides, another one may be in the offing.

ABC Theater project. A new show may be installed here in Spring 2008 (specifically, in the month of May), but no details are yet known for sure. Some speculate that the High School Musical show could be moving indoors.

Block Party Bash. The Disney Stars and Motor Cars parade will be replaced by DCA's Block Party Bash in spring 2008 (one date mentioned is March 14).

Backlot Tram Tour closure. After 2007, the Backlot Tram Tour may fade into Yester-World, to create room for an expansion of Pixar Place.

Journey into Narnia update to Prince Caspian. In early 2008, the existing Narnia walkthrough will close and be replaced by sets related to the second movie in the series, Prince Caspian.

Playhouse Disney new shows. JoJo's Circus will remain, but Bear in the Big Blue House, Stanley, and the Book of Pooh will be replaced by Little Einsteins and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. It's slated to re-open in February 2008. Note: Playhouse Disney Live (the stage show) is not to be confused with the Playhouse Disney In-Concert Series, which in 2007 will be housed in a tent behind Rock 'n Roller Coaster (in a backstage parking lot where the ESPN weekend puts all the sports activities)

"Meet Mickey" new home. The Sorcerer Mickey meet and greet may be moving into the Disney Animation building, where it's rumored to receive its own permanent backdrop from Fantasia for picture-taking.

New pizza in the Streets of America. Paperwork has been filed for a quick-service pizza location in the Streets of America, which might mean an expansion to a Chicago street. Or, it could mean the moving of Toy Story Pizza Planet to be closer to Pixar Place. No word yet on the fate of Toy Story Pizza Planet either way.

Ok - "Disney's Hollywood Studios" - all well and good...

But how many of you refer to the park merely as MGM? Whenever we take a trip and are talking about the itinerary, Disney MGM Studios invariably is shortened to "MGM". Will we just call it "The Studios" now?

As graduates of "Trenton State College" during a name change to "The College of New Jersey" who still refer to their alma mater as "Trenton State" I think it will be hard for DW and I to shake the "MGM" name.

Is the change happening 01/01/2008 or is there a specific date in January that the name change will occur? We will be there 12/28 - 01/06 so I'm wondering if we will be there for the change!

"This is easily one of the most ambitious attractions rollouts in the 18-year history of the park," Crofton said. "With so many great coming attractions, we are thrilled to be launching a Studios year unlike any other. Wrapped in a brand-new name...Disney's Hollywood Studios."

Meanwhile Universal is undertaking a Harry Potter themed area with attractions.

I too am under-whelmed.

This was taken from a Q&A about the new name on The Hub, WDW's web portal for CMs:

Q: When will the name change take place?
A: The changeover will happen gradually over a period of time. But we hope to have most of the work completed by January, 2008.

So apparently they'll begin soon, if they haven't already.

A new parade, some new characters and an attraction already revealed to the public several months ago doesn't seem too exciting or ambitious...you can tell they were pulling any new announcement out that they could. Im surprised there's nothing like a new extra ice cream flavor announcement to go with it.

But then again, she's not too far off track seeing the history of MGM Studios.

I'm glad Meg Crofton is thrilled. I'm underwhelmed.

You summed it up for me. I feel the same way and underwhelmed almost doesn't do it justice, for the way I feel. I the past 5 trips to WDW, I have no desire to go back to MGM or whatever it will be called. Besides TOT, there's not much that I care to revisit when going there. I doubt Toy Story Mania will do the trick and I hope some more E ticket attractions. along with some form of expansion is in the future. I won't hold my breath though.

:rotfl2: Too funny! But sadly that's how I feel too!

I like the name Disney's Hollywood Studios. Besides, we started calling it Disney Studios after our first visit.

As much as I love the Harry Potter books I feel that Universal's plans will also underwhelm. 20 acres out of 80- and they are spending 25% of what Disney plans to spend on DCA's rehab.

If you don't like the Studios park, then don't go. I for one really like the park and look forward to the new additions. JMO

I really like the park, it is easy to get to. No long monorail ride to get there. I too am looking forward to the new attractions. We are scheduled to go back in April 08.
