New music

I'm really into heavy metal, Mahler, Bruckner, Brahms, and later Beethoven. And John ("I made a ton of money recycling romantic classics for George Lucas movies") Williams.

I listen to the following:

Muse (AWESOME in concert)
Tacks The Boy Disaster
Alicia Keys
Silverchair
Owl City
Charlotte Martin
KT Tunstall
Fiona Apple
Radiohead
Michelle Branch
The Villagers
SheLoom
RX Bandits
Incubus
Autolux

It is my husband's fault. He listens to these all the time and I end up liking them after a while.

Hi Max,
I'm afraid you would by horrified by my choice in music. I prefer the rock classics.

  • Just about anything by Eric Clapton. Try the Cream Royal Albert Hall double CD for some of his best work.
  • Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. Love just about all their work - the Daylight Again CD is great.
  • Hendrix. Go ahead and call me an aging hippie, but his version of the Star Spangled Banner is a classic.
  • Santana. Another guitar great. I'm starting to see a trend here.
  • Allman Brothers. Just to stick with the trend.

Go ahead and scream. :3dglasses

If you like this you need to check out a guitar player named Joe Bonamassa. He has a dvd at Royal Albert Hall where Eric Clapton comes out to perform with him. I was lucky enough to get to see him a few months ago and all I can say is WOW. He is one of the best guitarist I have ever seen or heard. Check him out.

The Blues had a baby and they called it Rock N Roll!! :thumbsup2

I'm completely on board with those loving Adele and Mumford and Sons. I am also borderline obsessed with the Avett Brothers. Their song "Kick Drum Heart" causes car bouncing, singing, air drumming, and general happiness.

As a singer, I'm also crazy about solid female singer-songwriters - I love Ingrid Michaelson. And the Brit pop girls - Kate Nash, especially.

I find that what I'm listening to goes in waves. Sometimes I just want to rock out to some great classics (Stones, Aerosmith...), and sometimes I want to sing my heart out (Adele, Ingrid). The constant undercurrent is quality kids' music. It really is out there (They Might Be Giants, Gustafer Yellowgold, Dan Zanes, Frances England, Elizabeth Mitchell, Rocknoceros, Ralph's World...)!

XO
Liz

I've been getting into a lot of symphonic metal lately:

Nightwish
Within Temptation
Delain

Also listening to:

Breaking Benjamin
Three Days Grace
30 Seconds to Mars
Flyleaf
Avenged Sevenfold
Art of Dying
Destrophy
Thousand Foot Krutch

Punk, Alt, and Screamo are my favorite genres (and I pretty much stick to them). I LOVE All Time Low, Anberlin, A Day To Remember, Attack! Attack!, Asking Alexandria, Breathe Carolina, Bring Me The Horizon, The Dangerous Summer, Divided By Friday, 3OH!3, and more :goodvibes

Okay.....I'm a big Cyndi Lauper fan. Always have been.

I just found an old album that's been re-released of Cyndi and her band Blue Angel which happened just before she became really popular in the 80s.

The name of the CD is BLUE ANGEL

It sounds like old "girl group" stuff and rockabilly.

I'm obsessed.

Bands that I have been listening to recently include Noah and The Whale, Cold War Kids, Lady Antebellum, Elbow, Foo Fighters, Bruce Springsteen, Adele and Lady Gaga.

My latest obsession has been Adele's 21 album.

My favorites are:

Anything with Jack White (White Stripes, The Raconteurs & Dead Weather - although I'm partial to the White Stripes albums)
Red Hot Chili Peppers
The Strokes
Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Portishead
Fiona Apple
Madonna
No Doubt (& Gwen solo)
Modest Mouse
Frank Sinatra (earlier stuff)
Louis Armstrong

Guilty Pleasure: Justin Timberlake :rolleyes1

That is interesting, because our son is really into metal (and other music), but educated us to listen to how the compositions from some of the classics have been incorporated into the Metal Genre.

He was the one who got me interested in Bathory and Tool, along with some others. However, the mix on my iPhone is neurotic, including Tom Waits Nighthawks at the Diner, some Dire Straits, Pink Floyd, Fleetwood Mac, Greatful Dead, country, 70s and 80s mix, Allman Brothers, Van Morrison - I think I need an intervention.

Hey Max and others! We're a Foo-lovin' household...love their sound.
Have to agree with the others who are into Adele, Mumford & Sons and Arcade Fire.
We are major Sloan fans, love Metric, Travis and The Shins.
Love, love, love City and Colour - he is fantastic...and his band Alexisonfire is great too, but a totally different sound.
We keep playing these songs by Datarock and Pacha Massive that we discovered in the Virgin Store a few years ago. (they had that listening station in the front of the store and the three of us would listen to all of the songs...we really miss that!)

I have eclectic taste in music.
Loving Adele right now.
Beastie Boys, MC Yogi, Eminem, Ramones, Goo Goo Dolls, Match Box20, Bruce Springsteen, Cyndi Lauper, and Elton John.:cool1:

I just heard a song that I really like, don't know how old it is - Goodbye my almost lover by A Fine Frenzy - will have to check out the rest of the CD. I like Adele, Black Eyed Peas, love my Disco songs (Donna Summers, Bee Gees), but also have Phantom of the Opera on my iPod - I also like latin music - good salsa - like Celia Cruz. Only thing I DON'T like is country music - just don't even want to try to listen to that. ;)

I'm listening to City and Colour and thought about this thread...

Max and others: Are you listening to anything new and did any of the responses inspire you to listen to anything you hadn't heard of previously?

This thread came at a perfect time. I'm fresh out of music to listen to. Something really good that I have been listening to is "The Book of Mormon" cast album. Mumford and Sons is good as well as Adele.

Most of what I listen to is classic British rock, centered around The Who and The Kinks. My desert island disc would be "Quadrophenia."

I also like Foo Fighters, Oasis and Weezer. Newer, but not "new new."

The latest and greatest ear candy has to be the most recent two Devin Townsend Project albums, Deconstruction and Ghost. They are the 3rd and 4th albums in this Project. The 2nd album, Addicted, is a current favourite of mine.

For anyone interested in production, if you have not heard Devin's production, you must check his production style out.

I am also excited to hear Dream Theater's new album to hear what a non-Portnoy album.

Here is what is currently on my car ipod:
Aerosmith
Alice in Chains
Bill Bruford
Chore
Chris Squire
Coheed and Cambria
Devin Townsend
Porcupine Tree
Tool
Dave Matthews Band
In Flames
Fates Warning
The Fire Theft
Gary Burton
Herbie Hancock
Holly McNarland
I Mother Earth
James LaBrie
Jeff Buckley
John Petrucci
Journey
Kansas
Lamb of God
Liquid Tension Experiment
The Mars Volta
Moist
Muse
Nightwish
Pink Floyd
Planet X
Riverside
RUSH
Secret Chiefs 3
Sigur Ros
Silverchair

Sorry if TMI, I really enjoy music.
