Does anyone know why they changed the mugs so soon? We just got ours in May and now we saw some with the same design, but a different style mug. Did they change all the mugs to the new style or do you have a choice? It looks like they might hold more.

I think there has always been 2 styles of mugs. A standard, wide base, coffee mug and a more car cup-holder friendly design. Is that what you are talking about?

So far this week we have stayed at AKV and SSR. Both have only the new style available. We also have the mugs from earlier this spring and haven't seen that style available. Same artwork, different mug.

Could be a supply/contract thing or it could be Disney's way of enforcing the mug rules.

OP - which one are you referring to as the "new" style? Is the new style the kind that fits in a car cup holder or is it the wide bottom type? Also, can you (or anyone there recently) tell us if the ones you bought in May were the blue pattern (i.e. everyone and everything is pretty much blue)? I hate that pattern and they used that one last year too. I am hoping that they have changed the pattern too since I was there in January/February. Thanks!

We used the QSDP in June before and after our cruise.

Before we stayed at AKV and received the red celebration mug with the tapered white bottom. During that week, we visited SSR and noticed they were selling the red celebration mug with pattern color all the way down, no white tapered bottom.

After our cruise we stayed at BCV and they were selling the celebration mug with the pattern all the way down. So now we have both and were able to compare.

So during the first 2 weeks of June, Disney started phasing out the tapered white bottom mugs for the patterned all over mugs. They both hold the same amount (12oz) and they both fit in cup holders. :wizard:

Thanks! Glad we won't be stuck with the boring blue ones again when we go ;) Also glad to know they fit in cup holders. I do like the old wide bottom ones they used to sell but that reduces their use.

The new style the OP is referring to is a tall slender design, similar to what was released earlier this year with the characters on a red background, however it now no longer has the indent half way down the cup, but rather tapers smoothly all the way to the bottom with the decor running the full length. I have one in front of me now and just this morning questioned if it held more/less liquid than the previous cups: I filled one of our old "YOMD" cups to the brim and poured it into the new... the new cup holds the exact same amt as the old ones. :goodvibes

For the record, I like the new design. :wizard:

I think your are right. If the average DVCer goes down about twice a year, they don't want anyone getting free drinks using the older 6 month old mug.

They should do what Lake Compounce does in CT. With the ticket, you also get all-you-can-drink soda all day long.
