Thing is you have the option to wash ceramic and glass. Styro doesn't wash as well and since they are also removing the dish soap etc. you won't be able to easily clean your refillable mugs either unless you bring your own.
A disposable cup is only as clean as the last person who touched it and since that person may have just cleaned the bathroom, this brings up a whole new level of sanitary.
MLK-RI - you hit the nail right on the head! I've always thought the paper plates and bowls were cheap and tacky, and we never used them because who knows where they've been or who's touched them. So, when I originally heard about the glasses thing, I immediately just thought it just added to the cheap and tacky "dishes" that were already in a studio. But as I mulled it over more and started thinking about the implications, it was the inability to actually wash them that got me steamed enough to write to DVC. In the past, we've always used the real glasses, after a thorough washing. My choice now is to take my chances with the plastic/styrofoam that's being provided, or I can bring my own glasses and dish soap. This is not acceptable to me. So, count me in with the crowd that felt strong enough to complain!
