New mug and glass poll

How do you feel about the removal of glassware from DVC Studios?

  • I hate it and will be writing a complaint!

  • Don't like it, but not going to complain.

  • It doesn't really bother me.

  • I don't stay in studios, so this doesn't apply to me.

I agree. If they are providing sealed plastic/styrofoam that's one thing, but just a stack of them somebody pulled out of a bulk package is quite another. The whole sanitation issue becomes far larger than the asthetics of it. At the very least they need to provide small, sealed packages of new plates, cups, etc.

It has nothing to do with the asthetics of it for me! Some of us don't like drinking from paper, plastic, and least of all styrofoam! Not to mention the affect on the environment!:scared1: We all know that Disney creates a lot of garbage, but participates in many "green" initiatives. They pride themselves on being "green" and doing their part. It seems that putting back the glasses and mugs, which were already paid for, would be a simple solution in helping to stay "green!" I always washed my cups before drinking out of them, even though I think Disney should be able to properly sanitize them to start with.

I will be there for 15 nights this summer. That is ton of garbage created that could easily be avoided.

We all paid a premium price for "deluxe" accomodations and paper and styrofoam are just not "deluxe"!

As I said in the other poll....

WHERE but Disney could you spend $250 a night and get "disposable" glasses! !!!

(If you check into the JW Marriott for that price a night you get REAL glasses. If you check into the Comfort Inn for $50 a night you get "throw away" Only Disney things "Just because we put "Disney" on it we can provide LESS!!!)

This is NOT deluxe service folks and looking at it from that point only... It's a stupid move.

I wrote! I also plan to go to the front desk on my next visit and ask for REAL glasses and my dishwashing supplies. I also plan to ask them if this is what they thing "Deluxe" service is and when they say yes suggest they LEAVE property and go over to the Marriott complex, check in and LEARN!!!!!!!

We stayed at a Marriott resort and didn't pay near that and had fine linens, gourmet coffee and yummy teas, real glass, and fresh baked cookies every day in the lobby. Disney needs to wise back up!

Sorry to add another complaint about the poll, but I do think this change effects those who usually stay in a 1 BR or larger.

If members find the accomodations in studios to be unsatisfactory, they will either sell their points or more likely, find other ways to use them. Kind of like a large resort added to DVC that no one wants to stay at, imagine the impact of a large number of rooms that no one wants to stay in. The result: more bookings in the rooms perceived to offer a better expereince. More competition for those rooms means more 11 month sell outs and more waitlists.

Is this likely to happen based solely on this one issue? Probably not. But we are continuing down a slippery slope that may motivate more families of 4 or less to choose 1 BRs over studios.

I would definitely not use pts. for a 1 bedroom over a studio for this reason!:sad2: We are only a family of 3 and do not need a 1 bedroom. I hate to cook at home, so I'm not doing that on vacation! We do, however, love our little kitchenette and that was part of our decision to buy DVC with it's fine china! We make light meals that don't require cooking other than toasting or microwaving. But this is our little "home away from home".

We might splurge on a 1 bedroom some day, but we get to stay about twice as long staying in a studio. So I guess we will just have to stay in our "non-deluxe" substandard studio accomodations!:rotfl:

My first stay at DVC I was pleasantly impressed with the glass cups. The large size is great for a gin and tonics. Nice flat bottom, stable, heavy. Never had to worry about it being tippy and falling over. Being on the deck never even had a concern about the wind. The satisfying 'clink' of the ice in the glass.

Not impressed at all. :(

This action renders the kitchenette useless.

As someone else said, the studios are now nothing more than a hotel room with WORSE housekeeping.

I don’t believe for a second this has anything to do with sanitization. IF it was you would see the disposables first introduced in the hotel rooms without kitchen sinks.

This reflects a means of cost savings (at our expense) or a way to improve the problems with housekeeping, by making it as simple as possible.

My last stay at BWV had 2 coffee mugs with lipstick still on the rim :scared: We plan to carry our on plastic cups next trip.

I voted don't like it but wont complain. I always wash the cups and glasses and coffee pot before I use them. I don't like the change at all.

Many experienced DVC'ers are already aware of the shortcomings of housekeeping in general. We always wash our stuff, even if there are no lipstick marks on it. Now it appears we have been stripped of the opportunity to clean up after DVC housekeepers by washing our own stuff. Hopefully nobody does an expose on the cleanliness of blankets or sheets or we will likely be sleeping on those doctor's examining room paper sheets in time.

I think that is why I am pleased that members are not rolling over and accepting this. We already have many members who bring sheets because the sheets in the room don't fit the mattress, duvets because WDW won't get with the times like other hotels and still uses nasty blankets and bedspreads, and now cups/glasses.

While I am the first one to bring things to make my hotel room feel homey, I don't need to bring sheets or a duvet or a mug or a glass to the real hotels where I stay outside of WDW. They all provide them for their guests.

Exactly! How many of us already take things to clean with because the housekeeping is lacking. Lipstick or not, Im washing the dishes before my family uses them.

As stated earlier a dishwasher is not the only means of sterilization. Hot soapy water will kill most anything to the point I am comfortable to use for my family.

Does anyone think they steam clean the furniture between guests, or the carpets, or wipe down every doorknob, clean under the furniture and beds. THe bedspreads and pads are not replaced either. The chair seats dont get wiped off, etc.

I worked housekeeping for 3 weeks out of high school during summer break. I had 7 hours to clean 12-15 rooms. That was 20 minutes a room at best. 2 beds, vacuum, bathroom, trash etc. I quit after I left a bar of soap in a bathroom and was spoken to rather harshly (It was a Sheraton and I was 17) I now tip very well, because those that left a tip for me, brightened my day to a job I hated.
I also clean the room to my comfort level no matter where I stay and I dont like staying just anywhere.

As one Cm who was working the front desk at OKW, but use to be in Mousekeeping told me. I bring Lysol anywhere I stay. Though she admitted what was slowly becoming the norm as acceptable was not, when she worked in mousekeeping.

I don't like it...and when I did not get any reply to my email to Member Satisfaction within the promised 5 business days, I dropped letters in the mailbox this morning...Member Satisfaction, Environmental Initiatives, my DVC guide, Mr. Lewis, and Mr. Iger.

Even if you don't like the new policy, please take a moment to even cut/paste from one of the posts and send an email to Member Satisfaction. Give Larry and Todd job security!

Let DVC know that we don't want to see the product cheapened.
At least let them know that unwrapped disposables are even more unacceptable than glasses which can be washed by us on arrival prior to use.

Has anyone ever given any thought as to how those mugs and glasses are washed between guests. I never gave it any thought until I saw that video.
Now thinking about it those mugs or glasses would have to have been put in a dishwasher and a studio does not have one. Even in our 2-bedroom they probably don't wash the dishes unless they see they are dirty. It all makes me a little nervous and I'm going on vacation soon. Probably will be doing dishes when I get there. I guess WDW doesn't worry about it now because they have removed the glass out of the studios.

Yes, you think about it and you wash the dishes before you let your family use them. Even if mousekeeping did wash everything, unless I am there to witness it, I am not comfortable using the dishes unless I wash them myself.

I rinse my dishes out of the cabinet at home before using them, just habit.

Restaurants are different because they have Health Dept oversight.

In the one and two bedrooms they have a list of what should be in your kitchen(inside cabinet door). They say that the dishes have been put through the d/w but it is not considered sanitized as per some health reg. rule. I still take all the dishes and glasses and run them through the d/w when I get there. If mousekeeping has a hard enough time getting the rooms clean, I doubt the are putting the dishes through the d/w when they are their. As far as the studio, they should remove the old w/ each guest and 'restock' the cabinet, just like their are fresh glasses put into rooms at the resorts.

I just voted that I will be writing to complain. I can deal with styrofoam for a cup of coffee if I am tent camping. But seriously - I do not want a mixed drink or a glass of wine in a styrofoam cup!:scared: YICK!

Personally, I consider this a form of discrimination. I think I am more peeved about the fact that as a family of 3, we purchased enough points to be able to go twice a year in studios. We pay as much per point in annual dues as the next person who chooses to go only once a year but rent a one bedroom unit. Why should we be penalized for choosing a smaller unit? All they need to do is switch the glassware inbetween guests. I "don't get it". We purchased AP's so we could go twice. We purchase airline tickets twice - so we can use styrofoam cups?!:headache: Now in addition to the TSA rules we gotta dance around I gotta pack GLASS (or at a minimum good plastic) in order to travel to WDW and not have to use styrofoam for my cocktails? Now I have to pack my own dishwashing liquid and a sponge? I do not feel that we go often enough to warrant renting an owners locker tho. So it's more packing for me.:headache:  :scared: :sad2: Next thing you know they will install devices that require a quarter each time you want to open the frig door or use the toaster! Like locker rentals or something.

This really irritates me. And I will say it again. I feel discriminated against. They will be hearing from me this week.

We are in the same boat Anal Annie! (Love that name, by the way!)
We bought points, so we can stay about 12-14 days. We are also a family of three and the studios are perfect for us! We buy AP's and then go a couple weeks earlier the next year before they expire.
I really don't want to have to lug drinkware now back and forth over 6,000 miles to stay in my "deluxe" accomodations! I can't stand to drink out of disposable anyway and especially styrofoam!
I also feel we don't go enought to do an owners locker! Maybe in the future or maybe not!
