We went to see it last night.
I have mentioned this on the US community board - but I wish I had gone first thing in the morning rather than at 4pm. The cinema was packed full of hormonal teens who wailed and whooped each time Jacob came on screen.
I went with a teacher friend who wanted to stand up and say in her best teacher-voice "I'm going to stop the film until you're all sitting down quietly" - and she is only 26 herself.
Anyway - the film was good - I think I wouldn't have enjoyed it much if I hadn't read the books though as you don't get the depth of the emotion between Bella and Edward. It would probably seem like just another teen romance. If I hadn't read the book I would probably have wanted her to end up with Jacob (he is much better looking than Edward and for most of the film he is nicer to her as well).
Edward is very much the tortured soul again (sometimes he comes across as looking constipated - just saying
) and I don't feel he explained enough about why he did what he did. Of course he was missing for the majority of the film too.
So overall, thumbs up for people who have read the novels. Otherwise, unless you are under 18, I wouldn't bother to watch.
