Okay...let me begin by saying this is not a discussion about whether or not my son is too big for a stroller! ;) DS has some sensory issues and using a stroller at Disney allows him to enjoy the park without being overwhelmed (and therefore allows us to enjoy the trip too!). Last year we rented strollers at each park and even DD10 would occasionally sneak a ride and still fit. However, the pictures of the new MK strollers look VERY small. DS is petite for his age, but measures 48" and 45 lbs. Has anyone with a child of similar size used the new MK strollers, and will he fit? He doesn't need it for all day riding or for sleeping or anything...just for a place to take refuge! Also...do the canopies fold back if his head is bumping the top (although that sort of removes the "refuge"). Thanks!

We had a double, for our DD7 (55 lbs) and DS4 (maybe 35lbs). The double seemed smaller than the old ones and my DD certaily hit the canopy with her head. Together, they were tight in there - but we understand the strollers really aren't built for that much.

The canopy had some give but if it retracted, I never figured out how.

My suggestion would be to get the stroller - and get the double if that's an option. My DD was actually able to curl up and lay on her side alone in the double. We put a jack or two beneath her and she was pretty comfortable.

And our DD has type 1 diabetes, so occasionally she'd "crash" and have no energy. So yeah, she was a bit big for the strollers too, but there's NO WAY we'd be without one.

So I got your back on the "too old for a stroller" thing :)

Also if your child is "too big" for regular strollers and yet still needs one at WDW for whatever reason, you can look into renting a special needs stroller. There are a couple of Orlando area rental places that rent Maclaren Major Special Needs strollers. Orlandostrollerrentals.com is also now carrying a special needs stroller.

Wow! They look much smaller. I was still hoping to rent a stroller, too, for our DS 5 who is just about the same size as the OP's son. Our DS is about 46 inches tall and about 47 pounds. To be honest, I am the one who likes having the stroller. When we are crossing from one end of the park to the other I know that he is safe and sound and not going to get lost. I also like having somewhere to keep our stuff. :goodvibes

OP, I hope we get some more feedback. Thanks for letting me know about the new strollers!:daisy:

Another mom here looking for pictures with kids in strollers - single and/or double.

DS8 (small for his age - just over 50 lbs.) has autism and like the OPs son, he really likes the refuge. DS5 is average size (about 44 lbs.) and we're going through evaluations right now for Asperger's Syndrome. He too likes the refuge. With the new prices and smaller strollers I don't know what to do!:confused3 I don't even own any strollers anymore because they don't usually use them - but at Disney they will. And I really don't want to lug one on the buses, at the airport, etc.

Last year we rented one double and I was planning on doing the same this year. I figured they could squeeze in together or stretch out riding one at a time. With the price increase I'm wondering if we should rent a single.. but will they fit?

So I just want to give this a bump up hoping someone might have some photos to share. Thanks!

Is that a pocket on the back for storage? Is that big enough to fit a bag or anything?

If the pockets are the same as the old ones, I think there were two smaller ones big enough for a cup and maybe one in the middle a little bigger? A good place to shove a wet poncho...

Can anyone confirm for the new ones?

We rented a single stroller. We have a DS almost 6 and about 46 lbs. who rode comfortably in the single stroller. We have a DS 8 1/2 and about 65 lbs. who even rode in it every now and then when he needed a break. With the old strollers we were able to put one DS in front of the other for short trips. This stroller is pretty small to be able to do that. We did it a couple times out of necessity, but it didn't work very well.

Pockets seem to be the same to me and were exactly as you described. We were able to fit a lunch box in the middle pocket of the single stroller.

Hope I have helped a little. :daisy:

WOW those look small! Our DS7 is big for his age 70 lbs and 51 1/2 inches (not a chubby boy just tall and BIG) and our DD5 and him sit together in one all the time know I am really re-thinking this whole renting of a double stoller thing when the price is so much higher then it was last year.

Any advice???

That helps a lot. Since it will cost the same to rent 2 single strollers as it would to rent a double, one option we have considered is to rent a single for the week and add a second single on a couple days - Epcot WS day and our MK late night. I'm glad to hear DS8 will fit. :thumbsup2

Anyone know if you can upgrade a length of stay ticket from a single stroller to a double for the remainder of a week? Just in case our plan doesn't work and we change our mind...

I am pretty sure that answer is "yes." I asked about upgrading just one day of our rental from a single to a double and I was told that would be fine.

There's a lot of moms on the disabilities forum who have definitely had the same issues lol (including me)

Last year we rented from orlandostrollerrentals.com

DD was 8, 47in and 52 lbs. DS was 6, 44in and 46 lbs. we rented a double citimini from Shannon and it worked great! the kids were comfy, the canopy went all the way over the front if they needed it (and each side was seperate, i think) turned and rolled like a dream! it had a 100lb. max, so we were just under but it was fine. She does have singles, and OP, I think you little one might do fine in it, just check. they also have a baby jogger special needs stroller for the bigger kids.

Enjoy your trip!

Wow, why did they make them smaller? The old ones were perfect. They do look much smaller. For our last trip my 7 (almost 8 yo) and 4 yo shared a double and while there wasn't any additional room they never complained of being squished. This is obviously a picture with the old stroller. While we've already told oldest DD she will not get stroller use in the future, the new size will definitely make sure of that.:goodvibes

How much does it cost to rent a stroller for a week. Boy are they smaller. I loved the blue strollers.
