New MK Paid Disney After Hours Event Announced

Sorry. No mouse is gonna be chasing me down Main Street after they finish with the last guy. :scared1:

We all know there is lots happening there in the next 6 mos. New stuff, changes, old stuff rebirthed ...
and there is bound to be lots more thrown in the mix that will surprise us (like After Hours).

I imagine them trying to make all announcements with a twist to create more excitement .... and leaks mess things up.
I can wait until it's officially announced, will stay tuned. I certainly don't want you risking life and limb from a mouse attack.

In your own opinion, does the rest of the announcement make this more bearable, less bearable or about the same? ;)

Just to provide a different perspective (and please don't throw things at me! :) )...My husband and I are actually considering purchasing these After Hours tickets. But only due to very special circumstances; it's absolutely not something we'd pay for during a regular vacation and we don't need to buy for an entire family.

However, my husband happens to be attending a work conference the last week in April. They offer discounted conference rate tickets, where you can enter the parks after 2pm or 4pm. But he's at the conference until at least 5pm or 6pm every night. Which meant at the earliest, we might make it to MK by 7pm, allowing time for him to change and for transportation. With the parks closing at 10pm or 11pm, we really weren't going to have a lot of park time. But with this...we could get 6 hours in with part of that being during a lower crowd time where we could potentially squeeze in more rides per hour than using the conference discount tickets. So even though I definitely agree that the price is very steep, I can't help but be tempted by it...as it is probably that or no park time at all.

I can see where this makes sense, and it would make even more sense if they would offer a discount for people who already have tickets or APs for situations like this. I will be attending a conference in Orlando in July. Without DD there, I could actually take advantage of these late hours in the evenings after each conference day. However, I'll already have an AP and I'm not willing to fork over another $150/day to stay a few more hours.

I did not have specifics on THIS event because it was being kept behind closed doors, once leaked THEN there was much being said because the Mouse was not in his happy place. This was to be part of a bigger announcement and having this part leaked screwed that all up. So now they obviously had to just announce this event on it's own ... rest later ....

Sorry I guess I misunderstood your posts from last night-it sounded to me like you knew more details than had already been leaked by I guess you were referring to other knowledge. Probably just me hoping that there was more to this and Disney seriously wouldn't think $150 is a good price for 3 additional hours of access to the regular rides, characters, and light snacks lol
I had immediate family working at Disney and have good friends. Front line know LOTS!
We don't share info that they tell us that we know is not to be public knowledge and we have been told LOTS.
I believe there is about to be extensive training on Social Media 101 and keeping your mouth shut.

As I said there is a lot more to the story. I can not share.

I'm not sharing it. I didn't leak it. I haven't expanded on it.
It was already leaked, some potential details were leaked, none from me.
I only verified that the event is true, not some jump the shark idea.
I gave no other details about it or anything else.

Let's keep in mind this is an event that is not closing the park early, so it's an event totally by choice and not effecting regular guests. I don't see the issue, if you want to pay that crazy amount then by all means go to it! My MVMCP tickets was $70 and I only go every three or so years, so I'll stick with that. More bang for your bucks. I will definitely pass. Not worth it.

It affects people a little bit.

I'll be at the mk on one of those dates and had planned to stay until close. Those people can get into the mk earlier than the party start time, so I guess the impact on my non party time will depend on how many tickets are sold.

At 4 on holiday party days the mk really starts getting very crowded.

As I read this post, I had a realization that made me really sad. A few years ago (right up to the FP+ announcement or maybe even after) a post like this would have gotten me all excited and looking forward to what was going to happen...now a post like this just fills me with dread. Hopefully, there will be good stuff in that mix.

I guess I'm in the minority not thinking this is a big deal. IF they don't change current park hours and this is truly held at night after hours, it has zero impact on anyone who doesn't want to attend. I highly doubt it will increase day crowds on the event days, as most people attending the party will probably not also purchase a day pass for the same day.

On the flip side, if they change the park hours on those days and close earlier, I do agree that would be totally unfair to people who have already booked ADRs and FP since it would be way too late to rearrange plans at this point. If they were going to do that, similar to the Halloween and Christmas parties, it should have been announced well in advance so people could plan their trips around it.

I feel the same way. It isn't something I am likely to attend, but I don't care if Disney does it unless the parks start closing earlier or EMH are stopped...then I will care. I also don't attend any of the dessert parties. We did the Wishes Dessert Party back when it was $25 or so. It was worth it. At $50, it is not worth it to me. I do like the MK parties, and if I am in town I will go to the Halloween Party or Christmas Party. The special parades and fireworks are great. If those tickets rise to $150, I will stop attending them as well. It really is all about value. For some people, this will be worth it. For others, it won't.

If tickets allegedly go on sale tomorrow as reported by some phone CMs ( again for an event that's happening in three freaking weeks) it would stand to reason that they would be announcing the alleged "much much more"items sometime today. Then again, Disney has been anything but reasonable lately.
They don't have to announce anything else to sell tickets. People will buy them convinced that Disney will give them something amazing for their money. When the day comes and they find out the additions are the Fairy Godmother and Lady Tremaine they'll talk about seeing these rare and retired characters.

Did e nights stop after the 9/11 slow down?

I'm not 100% sure, but I think the timing matches. This was moved from a pay-extra event to a "free" perk for hotel guests, in an effort to boost hotel occupancy.

Back then, Disney shifted a pay event (I think it was $12 when it was ended) to a free benefit for hotel guests.
A decade and a half later, Disney offers a similar event for $150. (Don't forget the free Cokes!!!! Those cost about a dollar each at your local grocery store!!!)

I'm sure there's a lot to be announced. Like maybe everyone gets a personal character tour guide. I would totally pay $150 for Goofy to be my dedicated chaperon for 3 hours.

I remember $10 E Ride nights and they were fantastic! I also remember when, for a little while, they did some after-hours "Pirate and Princess" parties. Those were fun, too. Cute theme, characters in special outfits, special activities not available during regular hours. Price wasn't anywhere near $150 each, of course. I might be tempted to pay the $150 each for something really cool....special entertainment, unusual characters, a really cool and unique experience. But, for me, it would have to be more than short lines and ice cream. We are AP holders, go during the off-season, tend to stay a pretty long time, and have no trouble doing all the rides multiple times with short waits. So, $150 each for a few more rides on Space Mountain doesn't make sense for us. It's the special extras, if there are any, that would make the difference.

It reads to me that it will be just like the parties, no "wristband" obtained, you must leave.
  • Please note that Magic Kingdom park will officially close to Guests who haven’t purchased Disney After Hours tickets at 10:00 PM on April 28 and May 5, 2016; and at 11:00 PM on April 14 and 21, and May 8, 12 and 19, 2016.
But if I recall the Halloween party sold exclusive party items such as tee shirts and magic bands that were limited. They started selling them right at 7:00 which may be the reason they wanted people out. I would think Disney would want people to stay in the front of the park shops so they could get more of our money.

I think it's hard because there is so much happening in a tight time frame, they are adding stuff, removing stuff, covering for Shanghai, sold out hotels, packed parks (MK was in phased levels yesterday) - so much construction that can be frustrating and it seems like they are just going overboard on some things like this After Hours. I think they are testing waters to see guests breaking point and what they are willing to pay for.

Many of the extra events have been successful like Harambe Nights, Club Villain etc and the other "free" ones like Unleashed the Villains a disaster while EMH doesn't make them money. Some of us will love new stuff and changes, some of us will hate it .... but as long as this stuff sells out and people will pay for things, even things that used to be free (EMH)(Resort Fee?)(closer parking) this won't stop.

My Disney-loving side is getting tired of some of this nickel and diming, my Disney-stockholder side is like "get my stock back up there."
