New Military Discount???

Question about military ticket deal...

Say I want to upgrade my GAD ticket to the military offer, is that possible?

We have never been to the water parks....so say I want to do that...can I get that deal....and then on the last day can I upgrade to seasonal passes?

And well...would we even want to go to a water park in November?

for the past 2 years we have not been allowed to modify the ticket in any way, shape, or form, so I would be surprised if they allowed you to do what you are requesting....Maybe you can contact SOG or your local ITT/MWR or the GAD people to see if that is possible:confused3

Yes. I believe it is either 5 total or Military member plus 5. I have seen it posted on message boards both ways but haven't called MWR yet to ask.

I know the past two years...they have come out with the special tickets that start in Jan. However those are the LIMITED ones of member plus 6. SOG is not even showing this special yet. I find that odd too. That is why I thought this was SOMETHING different. When was this announced?

I think it is odd too. I emailed them but they don't answer emails on the weekends. Hopefully I will hear something later in the week.

that sounds like sound advice. I am sure that the tickets does have to be purchased by the military member or SPOUSE, It can not be purchased with a child's ID( or at least that is what the ITT/MWR ticket office here said).

Thanks to both of you...I have asked and he is all for doing that as his idea of fun with the kids is target practice and hunting...not Disney :)

The closest place that I think we could go to get the tickets, however, is 2 hours away in Omaha at OAFB. We are in central Iowa.

You are welcomed, Please be mindful that HE would be required to activate the tickets at the gates. How old are your children may I ask? Since he is active (I assume) and you have Primary custody( I assume) He should/would be able to
" sponsor" you. All you would need is a copy of his CAC (front and Back) and a notarized letter authorizing you to act in his absence therefore giving you permission to activate the tickets. This is how it used to work here, not sure if they still allow you to do it:goodvibes Good luck, you are correct though, as long as your children hold their current ID cards and are authorized access, they have privileges for SOG and other military installation activities

No on both counts. The military tickets are distributed separately and you cannot "upgrade" a complimentary ticket to a military special priced ticket.

And, military tickets, in turn, are not "upgradeable". You cannot add more days or turn it into an annual pass.

Actually, in past years you could upgrade AFS tickets to annual or seasonal passes AND you were able to use the GAD voucher towards the cost of the AFS ticket, provided you purchase it at the gates and not at SOG. There were several people who reported back that they were able to use their GAD vouchers towards the purchase of an Armed Forces Salute ticket.

Ok thanks, will stick with upgrading GAD to seasonal pass then. :thumbsup2

First of all, at the current time there are no Armed Forces Salute Tickets available for sale or activation. The program ended on September 30. Anything about a new program is strictly an unfounded rumor.

I have looked daily at the "Guest Offers" section of the ticketing module in The Hub. Also, at work I have looked in the Automated Ticketing System at the location where prior ARS tickets were sold and there is nothing there.

That said, the GAD ticket is a promotional ticket, not a complimentary ticket. There is a difference in treatment. A promotional ticket carries the full gate value of the ticket and can be upgraded. A GAD ticket may be upgraded to any ticket a person is eligible to purchase. Last year a person could upgrade a "Free On Your Birthday" ticket to a 2009 Armed Forces Salute ticket, and this year a person could upgrade a GAD ticket to a 2010 Armed Forces Salute ticket.

And although days could not be added to an Armed Forces Salute ticket, a person could upgrade one to any level of Annual Pass that they were eligible to purchase. However, there was no price bridging, so the value of the AFS ticket was either $99, $124, or $149 depending on if it had zero, one or two of the options.

I called WDW on Oct 3 hoping for any kind of a discount. Imagine my surprise when the CM told me about the new military discount. I posted the info on this forum (under the rumors section) and on AFCrossroads. Since I couldn't find any info online, I called WDW the next day (Oct 4) and a different cast member gave me the same info for the military discount. After hearing doubts on here and still not being able to find the info online, I called back on Oct 5. The CM told me that the new military discount is no longer being offered.

Since we had already booked our trip (from Australia!) this really upset me. I decided to call everyday just to check on the status of the discount. When I called yesterday, a very nice CM told me not to lose hope...She wouldn't read me the entire email that she was reading from, but everything she could say was very positive. Even when I was concerned about not having the discount for our trip at the end of this month, she repeatedly said that I shouldn't worry...Everything should be worked out by then. I told her about the rumor of a military discount starting in Jan 2011, and she seemed to think that it would be valid well before then.

Not much hope to go on, but it does sound like they are trying to work things out.

There is a current military room discount. 30% off values, 35% moderates and 40% deluxe. It was listed here on the main DIS and also my Disney TA contacted me about it. The room discount alone will save us a lot of money, but we have season passes anyways.

This question has probubly already been asked, but I'm going to ask it again anyway, becaus eI ahven't read through the entire thread, but does the room have to be booked by Oct 1 or does the stay have to be by oct 1? What do ya'll think the chances are that they will extened it into decemeber?

These ticket prices are sooo much better than what SoG is offering. I wonder if you can purchase them at SoG as well or if they will match them?

With this years discount, we were able to purchase them at SoG, from the military travel office, or at certain ticketing counters at Disney. We got ours at SoG to save on the sales tax. Hopefully they do the same with the new offer! :)

My husband called ITT at Newport Naval Station and they have the new Military Salute tickets for sale. We will wait and get them at SOG so we don't have to pay the tax.

ours do too!!! hooray!!:yay:

Success!

I booked 2 rooms at CSR in May 2011 with the military + dining package. No ticket purchase required. The CM told me that the mlitary member could get up to 3 rooms at the discount, and I booked 2, one for our family and one for my cousin and her son. She linked the reservations and noted that the military member was on our reservation number. She was extremely helpful!

Where wdwinfo.com had info listed about the ticket discount, it now says this:
"We previously had information on ticket prices listed. Disney has suspended the sale of these tickets for the time being. If this becomes available, we will update our information."

Oh well...

my husband just forwarded me an email saying the room discount is good through Nov 1, 2011. (it was a ship- wide mass email from the ITT office)
Fingers crossed on a ticket deal!

I emailed Shades of Green to see if the tickets prices that were in an early post were available there, This is the reply.

Dear Dawn,

We are not selling these tickets here and have not been given the tickets yet! Keep checking with us and check with Disney at 407-824-4321.

DH called ITT--talked to 2 different people. Now they're saying they don't have a contract with Disney yet, and probably won't be for sale until January:headache:. Both people did say to keep checking back--just in case.
