My husband and I, and my mother in law, are all excited to say we are new members! Our home resort is Aulani.
Prior to this I have heard of Aulani, but don't know much about it. We are thinking of planning a trip there now that we are members, so looking for any advice you can offer! Even the simple things, like:

-how long would you recommend staying for a first trip and what time of year?
-would you stay on resort only or take day trips to see the local area? Are there excursions you can purchase?
-is there much to do on resort itself? What experiences should we not miss?

And anything else you can think of! Thanks for the help :)

Since you own Aulani, you plan to vacation there most of the time. What you don't do this vacation, you can do the next time. Don't rush, relax and enjoy the experience.

We went for ten days this past March, the weather was great! Not too hot, a couple short showers, but overall lovely weather! I guess how long you want to stay depends on how far you are travelling. We are from the east, so we wanted to make a longer trip since it's a long flight.

We rented a minivan and took a couple day trips on our own to Pearl Harbor and the north shore. You can book excursions, so if you'd rather leave the planning to someone else that's probably the way to go!

We found lots to do at the resort, the kids loved the lazy river/pools/slides. The beach is also great and you can walk around to the other resort lagoons. You can rent paddle boards and other equipment. If you have younger kids, Auntie's Beach House sounds like fun as well!

Congrats! I would say a week is just not quite long enough for Hawaii! It really is paradise. Spring or fall are good times to go...airfare is less expensive and it's a little less crowded. You have a lifetime now to see Aulani and Oahu so take your time and relax and enjoy...but must see is Waimea Valley and beach on the North Shore and the new shopping area in Haleiwa. Be sure to check out the Clark Little Gallery...his photos are AMAZING!!
