OK, so I am a soon to be new member with a use year question. We are buying 160 points at BLT and were told that by purchasing today (May 31) we would get what was conveyed as incentive points equal to what we purchased, so 320 total points. From reading posts on the DIS board I see that the extra 160 are not really incentive point, but the 2009 use year points and then June 1 we would have the 160 use year 2010 deposited in the account.

We would likely travel most times either late May, February, and possbily November (depending on kids' school schedules).
I understand we can choose a use year and thought February might be better than June due to banking rules. If we go with the June use year, can we bank both sets of 160 points, the 2009 and the 2010?

Help, I am so confused. We were thinking of a trip next June/July 2011 that requires around points, and if we are allowed to bank the 2009 and 2010 points then on June 2011 got 160 more we would not need to borrow?? But with Feb.use year it seems we would definitely need to borrow. Any help is greatly appreciated, hopefully I will eventually figure it all out!

:) I do not believe you will be able to receive 2009 points for a FEB UY becasue 2010 FEB UY has already started. You were offered June because that UY starts tomorrow. So you also could have gotten say DEC 2009 points because the 2010 UY has not started yet. If you want really want FEB then get that UY, but I think you will miss out on the points.

Someone like SandiW will come along in just a bit to answer this question better than I.....:cutie:

:) My DH is a fireman and does not pick out his next year vacation schedule until Dec. I cannot make advance reservations without insuring that he has those dates. We like to travel from Oct-Dec, which most folks here will advise is not a good UY for us to have because that means we are traveling in the last 4 months of our UY generally and can cause us complications if we have to cancel---especailly, within the 30 days of check in.

Well that scheduling in the only option we have-- he has to pick 3 different choices then. It just makes more sense to us so that we can use our points most effectively. Since we like traveling in the fall and DEC. I can call in January and get our 11 month reservation, knowing which dates he has chosen. A trip in March possibly is just icing on the cake, but we will only be able to make that at 3 months out. :thumbsup2

If you do not cancel reservations then UY will not matter much...and there is always trip insurance.

You might be better with a later use year.

You would still get your 2009 points but you would be able to use them for June 2011 trip.

With a June UY if you bank the 2009 points they will expire 31 May 2011 and can not be banked again.

If you know you will typically travel in the fall, then a September or October Use Year would work well for you and you can still make the purchase and get points from the current 2009 Use Year and then you next allotment of points on September or October 1st.

The "incentive" they are promoting is how DVC has always been sold where you would get a full compliment of points from the current Use Year and then the full compliment again when your next Use Year begins. Since annual fees are figured on an annual basis and have nothing to do with your Use Year, they also tell you that no fees are due on the 2009 points. DVC has always prorated the annual fees for a new purchase, so if you purchased today, you'd pay only 7/12 of the actual total. Currently (as of today), there are no more 2009 Use Year points remaining for February, March, April or June Use Years but those with August, September, October and December Use Years are still in their 09 Use Year. There are no January, May, July or November Use Years.

Good luck with your decision! :)

I agree with you too! A fall UY would make better sense and would still qualify for the 2009 points.

With the potential for May travel, I would not choose a June UY as there would be no time to reuse points if a trip was ever cancelled or changed.
