Hi I just bought 50 OKW December use year resale. This is all the points I own. Wanted to start small. Now I am thinking of adding on points. Should I buy resale with a different use month at same resort, should i buy at a different resort, or should i go through DVC for add on points.

Welcome Home!

50 points is a very small amount. Unless you are going to buy a full 150 point contract with a different Use Year and/or resort, I think I would build on what you have sticking at least with the same resort and hopefully, the same Use Year. This will make it easier for you to book your trips.

You raise an interesting question -- Will Disney do add-ons for someone who owns less than the minimum? Or, will they require them to buy enough points to reach the minimum?

well, if you are wanting to add-on at OKW, then more than likely you'll have to go the resale route.
unless by some miracle the waitlist for adding-on at OKW through Disney direct happens to be short.

if you are going to buy resale, and you want OKW, then it will be difficult to find exactly what you want if you are limited to one Use Year.

i believe it's not too bad to have multiple Use Years. just some extra banking windows to juggle. and sometimes when you call MS you have to give them an extra Membership#.

but if you're going to buy a different Use Year anyway, i would stick with the same resort. i think it gets a lot more complicated if you have BOTH a different Use Year and a different resort.

good luck!

(btw, i think the answer is yes to whether someone w/ less than 150 to start can add-on direct through Disney. although i didn't quite test that myself as i started w/ 100 at OKW from resale, but then i added another 100 at BWV through Disney which makes the total higher than 150.)

I would first start by calling DVC and asking for a guide and ask them if it is possible to add on from Disney. If not, try the resale market. What is your use year?

No matter what you do, try very hard to stick with the same use year. Have that 50 point contract out there with a separate use year could get confusing and/or difficult to use.

Thank you very much for welcoming me home. And thank you for answering some questions. Trust me i love this site and will be back with more questions and soon our first trip update. Thank you all

For this size contract, I'd stay with the same use year if at all possible.
