New Member Has Questions

Hi there!

I am very new to the Vacation Club and to this Message Board. I am waiting for a call from a DVC representative, but, basically, how much investment is necessary for a two week yearly vacation at say Old Key West and how does the point system work?

It depends on what size accomodations you want and when you plan to spend those 2 weeks. Can you give us more information? Do you want a studio, 1 bedroom, etc. and when approximately do you plan to travel (i.e. what month, Christmas, etc.)

Thank you for replying. I would want a studio and my travelling dates would be Feb. 26/2005 - March 11/2005.

From Caskbill's program, that would be Magic Season and an OKW studio would take 218 points for 14 days. Hope this helps!

Yes - but do you earn the points or purchase them because that would translate into roughly $16-17,000. Is this money applied to 2 week vacations over a yearly time period? Thanks for your help once again!

You purchase the points and then pay a yearly maintenance fee on them of about $4.00 per point. Every year you get your allotment of points that you can use whenever you want. Some seasons cost more points than others.

So if you were to buy 200 points at OKW, you would get those points every year to use whenever you want. Right now Disney is selling Saratoga Springs. It would be easy to buy OKW through a resale if that's what you want however. There is a major benefit to buying at the resort that you really want to stay at the most becuase you get a 4 month jump on reservations there before non owners can make a reservation (you can make a home resort reservation at 11 months and at other resorts at 7 months)

For example, there is a resale contract listed when you click the DVC REsales link at the top of this page for 230 points that would cost $16,790.00. You would get 230 points per year for that cost and as HBC pointed out, each year you would pay approimately $4 per point for maintenance fees.

So, your initial investment would be $16,000 - 17,000 with yearly fees of approximately $920 (though I think OKW is actually a little less than $4 per point so this might be a high estimate).

Keep asking questions, everyone on this board is very willing to help you understand. One good thing about DVC Dis'ers is that they're a pretty helpful bunch!



Edited to add: This system does expire in 2042.

2042 for all resorts except Saratoga Springs which goes to January of 2054.
