my husband and I just purchased DVC together. I used our regular my Disney experience account which is HIS email. When I view the membership card online, only my name comes up, and I called Disney tech support, and they said he needs a separate Disney Vacation club account to view his name on the digital card. We are husband and wife, we all have the same my Disney experience account on his email, so why would he all of a sudden need his own DVC account?

We did the same for my wife. She had to create a DVC account to have her own access and to be able to order her DVC card. If you are a direct buyer I believe you may also be able to contact MS to order both cards without creating a 2nd account. If you're looking to use the digital version then you'd each need an account.

Wow thank you so much!! I figured this couldn’t be correct! So backwards!

There are two of you so you need two accounts. Otherwise one person don't be able to access anything online. MDE is for planning and having just one account there is fine. But as owners each person needs their own separate account.

You dont NEED two accounts to get two membership cards.

Thats correct You dont NEED two accounts to get two membership cards. Just call MS and they will send the other card to you.

We get different answers from different CM's. Some CM's tell us that we can only order cards or change contact info for ourselves and not for each other, while others will just go ahead and do it for both of us no problem.

It's MS, expect to get different answers. Just keep contacting them until you find an advisor who will do what you need. Years ago when we could only call, it was common to hang up on advisors who didn't know what they were doing.

ok, so have any of you been able to access a digital membership card for both spouses with just one DVC account? I just think its ridiculous that they only let one name show up for a digital membership when its a husband/wife DVC membership.

Under the terms of agreement between you and Disney/DVC, each owner has their own separate DVC account and you should only use your account when accessing the website. There isn't a family account.

As mentioned you should be able to order a physical card without each having an online account but to both have digital cards you'll both have to have your own DVC membership logins.

Why would anyone want one account for two people? That’s like a shared email or FB account. Couples are still separate individuals. :)

Have each person call and request that their card be sent or take 5 minutes and set up the second account to get the other digital card.

Yep. And maybe it’s changed since 2009 but it was all very clear when I got the packet and of course read through as much of it as I could before my eyes crossed. :)

OP, are you under legal age, and not able to have your own account?
Are you from another country? You know in the US you are a legal person in your own right. Your identity is not solely tied to your husband.

You will use your DVC membership account a lot, and you will enjoy the planning.
Take the time now to get it set up correctly, or you will have years of frustration.
(Disney IT is frustrating enough, don't compound the problem.)

I just have my one account registered. My husband could care less about a DVC card, and really our DVC membership.

If he's ever on his own he may want a card. Better to have it and not need it than not have it when you need it.

Lol. I’m a traditionalist at heart. If my husband and I can file taxes together etc then in principle I think we can share the same DVC account. If you’re buying DVC jointly with anyone you must trust them an awful lot anyways!

Without a card, you don’t get the discount on food or merchandise. If you ever shop separate from your spouse, you’ll want to each hold your own card. Heck, I bought my wife her very own 25 point contract so she could get a membership card. It was easier than changing the title on our other deeds and we got more points.
