So I have in the past avoided this ride due to its jarring nature and cramped feeling in the vehicle. Is that new vehicle a smoother more comfortable ride?

I heard Bob Gurr, the man who designed the ride, remark that he thought it would still be bumpy because it was designed by a man who didn't know what he was doing back before computers. :rotfl: And from the early reports I've heard, the ride is still bumpy. That ride always gives me a headache. :headache: They should have at least added softer seats! ;)

I rode it 2 days ago. I think it got a little smoother, but it's still pretty bumpy. The seats don't have any more padding, which doesn't help.

I rode it Saturday for my first time ever and it was bumpy, I was kind of surprised how bumpy it was

Why doesn't Disney seem interested in addressing the #1 by far complaint regarding Matterhorn? A decade or so ago they tore out the track and rebuilt it in a major refurbishment...high hopes it would then be smooth....NOPE! Now this latest refurb got many all excited it would address the bone jarring bumpiness...once again nope.

Do they consider the bumpiness of the ride to be a "part of the ride?" By that I mean, do they think a bobsled ride through a mountain would be bumpy so thats why it is that way?

I have no idea, just a thought:confused3

What I heard is that Disney doesn't want to change it because of sentimental/historical (?) reasons, being that this was the first rollercoaster of its kind, and they want to retain that experience.

Of course, could be heresay, but that is what I was told.

To DisneytheKid, the Fantasyland side is smoother than the Tomorrowland side.

that makes sense I could see that being the case

Never been to Disneyland - just took my first trip to WDW in January and was wondering if the Matterhorn is the same as or close to Expedition Everest in Animal Kingdom. Considering Disneyland for our next Disney vacation.

Completely different ride. Matterhorn is much better. EE was a huge dissapointment for us, especially since we waited in line for an hour and a half for it.

Thanks Maryjo

I disagree with the previous poster! Expedition Everest is a great coaster!! It is a modern state of the art coaster, very smooth and tons of fun. Matterhorn was the very first steel tube coaster built in the world. Its old, simple but enjoyable for the nostalgia it holds. Its very bumpy, some like that, many do not. Its a classic. I find tweens and teens love it and ride it over and over while many adults can't handle the bone jarring bumpiness. EE and MH are two vastly different rides...its old vs. new to me.
