New Mary Poppins movie for Dec 2018.

The Fast "whatever" movies are Universal properties and so is Despicable Me. Transformers is also now a part of the Universal set up since DreamWorks is involved. I don't count Marvel since they can't belong to two studios and I disagree strongly that there is no development in Spiderman. It's easily one of the best rides in central Florida. I also didn't realize that amount of time is what indicated a studio product.

I did forget about the Simpsons - my mistake. I didn't realize that this thread was going to be about attacking Universal so I'll bow out now.

It never was...I made a point they just buy the IP , basically for the parks. I forgot about he fast and furious and the other as they recently brought Dream-works. That was my error.

I started this to get a legal answer on how they are able to make a additional MP movie since Ms. Travers was dead set against.

I agree. For me, Julie Andrews is Mary Poppins. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but there's no way on God's green Earth that Emily Blunt can play the role and sing as incredibly as Julie.

I guess Mary Poppins and Bert will always be Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke. I think they are counting on the change of the setting to may years later.

With modern ability to manipulate music with auto tune and what not you'd be surprised. Still agree with what you're saying tho

Raping ? Not really ..
Lin-Manuel is a great actor and imho a good fit for the movie . He's extremely talented and he earned a Pulitzer Prize for the Hamilton play in Broadway.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't he the fellow who created "Hamilton" - the Broadway rap musical? He/Disney will undoubtedly bring rap to Mary Poppins. If so, I'll stay home. It just ain't my scene.

That is indeed who he is. However, he has done much more than just write rap musicals. He is also writing the music for Moana and has written for the Electric Company and Sesame Street.

He is also an actor and has been on shows like House, How I Met Your Mother, and was in the movie The Odd Life of Timothy Green. All of those he did not rap or sing in.

Ah! Well, that's good to know. Maybe Disney hasn't completely lost their mind yet.

Hollywood has officially ran out of ideas. Is there anything original anymore!? Lol everything is sequels or remakes or reboots of old IP. Lol besides zootopia what ggreat disney movies has been new IP since frozen?

What about "Inside Out?"
Good call!! Forgot about that one lol
But for the most part it is not original IP. They acquired Star Wars and Marvel so they have started pushing out movies for those IP. They are now remaking a lot of their own classic movies or having sequels like finding dory, or toy story 4, cars 3, etc. Im not saying it just isnt them either. It is all of Hollywood

I was just thinking, Can they legally use the other books, or do they just have the rights to the Mary Poppins movie characters and can add what they want on the big screen? I know the musical used more of the books. I will be voting with my wallet and staying home. Pretty sure Disney won't miss my $10.

You have a point, and Disney does of course buy other properties now and then like Star War. but unlike Uni that does not develop anything new(except Jurassic Park) and just buys other properties. The recent Disney remakes and sequels is moving from animation to live action.

Then add, the many things of recent years Disney has developed (some together with Pixar, which is Disney)..... off the top of the head..........Cars,Toy story, Planes, Inside out, Brave, Tangled, The Princess an the Frog, Dinosaurs, Frozen, Arial, Zootopia, Big Hero, Monster University, Nemo, Pirates, Wall-e, Bolt, Ratoille, Santa Claus films, ETC, etc, etc,

Right. The ones that are original are of much higher quality, and I want Disney to focus on making those. Most of their original stuff is great. Their sequels & remakes, not so much.

That's not the point! Julie didn't need auto tune! Anyway, she's one of a kind and in my mind she's Mary Poppins. When I see the "friends of Mary Poppins" at WDW, I always think "wow, they really look like Julie Andrews!"

Its a shame with Julies surgery injury she cannot sing any longer.......I wonder if they could have gotten her to reprise the role!

The dead have very few legal rights.

They still get to vote, don't they?

Sorry, I couldn't resist :teeth:

Back to the original post, I'm happy there is going to be a sequel since Mary Poppins is probably my most favorite Disney movie. I first saw it when I was a little boy living in Germany when my Dad worked for the US Air Force. There were still quite a few chimney sweeps that worked in the little town we lived in, and I used to get very excited when I saw them at work on our street!

I'm one of those. I have strong doubts about this idea.
Julie Andrews IS Mary Poppins. Please do not mess with perfection.

This is my all time favorite movie. No. No. No sequels.

That look on DVD's face when he sings "You've got to grind grind grind at that grindstone, though childhood slips like sand through a sieve" cannot be replicated or replaced by this Jack guy.

Disney, I beg you, don't do this to your most moving and best cinematic masterpiece.
