New Mary Poppins movie for Dec 2018.

How about a compromise? Use these actors to film a trailer to get people to come, then in the theater just play the original to introduce younger generations to these iconic actors? Everyone wins and nothing is tarnished.

This is going to be 2018's Go Set a Watchman, and I don't want to go through that again.

Julie Andrews IS Mary Poppins. Please do not mess with perfection.

This is my all time favorite movie. No. No. No sequels.

That look on DVD's face when he sings "You've got to grind grind grind at that grindstone, though childhood slips like sand through a sieve" cannot be replicated or replaced by this Jack guy.

Disney, I beg you, don't do this to your most moving and best cinematic masterpiece.

Making this sequel isn't going to ruin the original. It's not like they are going to insert new CGI effects and re-release the original. I don't understand what all the fuss is about with sequels and reboots in general. If one doesn't like the idea, then one should not go see the movie. Instead of seeing the movie on opening night, one should stay home and enjoy the original. They aren't taking the original away from anyone. As I posted earlier, one's voice is spoken with one's wallet.

Does anyone here really think we are going to be getting another Alice movie anytime soon? With a production budget of $170 million, so far it's taken in a Worldwide Lifetime Gross of $176+ million. That's an IP that's going to be left on the shelf for a while.

Hollywood has officially ran out of ideas. Is there anything original anymore!? Lol everything is sequels or remakes or reboots of old IP. Lol besides zootopia what ggreat disney movies has been new IP since frozen?

IMHO, I think its because no one wants to risk investing the money to produce a movie that isn't a sure bet. They think sequels or reboots are safe bets, so that's what they put their money.

Personally, I hate reboots.

I can't wait to see this movie. I actually like the remakes and sequels. I love to watch movies I watch when I was a kid with my daughter now

I don't think it's fair to say Hollywood has run out of ideas. They just don't market their original ideas because they don't want to gamble with them. Look at this article of 61 Original Movies in 2016.

Also, when I think of Disney, I don't think "original". Look at the list of Disney theatrical releases and look at how many of them are truly original. Most are re-tellings/re-imaginings (or *gasp* other words for "reboots").

Just because Disney's version of a character is the most thought of does not mean it's original.

Lin-Manuel is a great actor

Is he??! I saw Hamilton on Broadway and thought he was an okay actor and singer, not great.

Did you hear him try and sing "A Whole New World" with Lea Salonga, ouch...

I'm skeptical about his casting but I'm really excited about Emily Blunt. I loved her in Into the Woods and found her performance very moving and really enjoyed her singing.

That's exactly what it is. I enjoy a good reboot (emphasis on good).

It's been on Broadway for over a decade anyway. I can barley sit through the movie. I mean we get it, the horse race had real people and animated horses-but it goes on and on. I love it for what it is/was, and its historical creative nature and overall history and characters and songs-but do think it's up to Disney to decide if they want to take a run at it, not me. New technology alone will make it interesting, and Emily. Can always skip going to it.

I think the big problem people have is not every movie needs a sequel. The movie industry is very sequel or remake driven right now. Mary Poppins is one of those movies that really doesn't need a sequel.

I think the bigger problem is "who decides"? I doubt anyone on this board should be in charge of the movie world (or WDW for that matter).

But who's to say the people who are in charge are right? Walt could've made a sequel but he didn't. PL Travers also didn't want a sequel made. It's all a matter of opinion and that's why there is a thing such as discussion boards. I'm sure there are people on such discussion boards that might be capable of being in charge of a theme park. On a discussion board I don't think it matters who decides. Has Iger always made the best possible decision for the Walt Disney Company. No but that also varies in what you look for in a CEO. If you only want stock price to stay up then sure he's done fine but as a theme park fan I'm not as sure.

My mistake, you are right. It should not be made.
I never said it shouldn't be made. I'm quite interested to see the final product and likely will go see it in theaters I just don't think it needs to be done.

Nothing "needs" to be done.

Do you think it "should" be done?

Exactly nothing needs to be done. As for a Poppins sequel my opinion might be swayed by the final product but as of right now I say not it shouldn't be done.

Another CEO may have sold off the parks, the new owner might have run them out of business, or that CEO might have made things far worse than what is currently progressing. $10 Billion for WDW expansion this decade came from somwhere.

Point is we will never know, but I for one love where it is and where it's headed, and would not retake my chances on an unknown.

You're not understanding the point here. Just because I say its shouldn't be done doesn't mean it shouldn't. I also said my opinion may change based on the final product. What are you trying to accomplish with this discussion?
