New Magic Bands Arrived- A Little Disappointed

I mentioned this thread to DH and he looked at me like I had 10 heads. His words: "I'd be happy if the mailman just chucked 'em on the front lawn as he drove past our house laughing maniacally like the mailman in Funny Farm...you're going to WDW for cryin' out loud! Just be happy!"

I like the new packaging. I think they still could do better though. They should have a variety of box sizes depending on how many bands are being shipped. You get the same size box for 1 band or 6 bands.

I'd also like to see a way to cut down on sending bands for every last resort reservation. They are good for two years, but it's probably over IT's head to program not to offer a band if you have one in your account that is less than two years old.

You do have the option to decline bands. I think restricting the number would cause a backlash, you are still paying the same price for the room as a first timer.

Yes I know that, but it's still a waste.

On a somewhat related note - anyone know when the MB 2.0 accessories are going to hit the shelves?

I saw photos online of the Magickeepers in the park (not sure which one). I'm waiting on them to show up on the app.

We live in the UK so picked our bands up at the resort, only actually got the Incredibles box once and on a cardboard tube the other times. So doesn't make a difference to us.

Ditto for us Canadian folk.

On our last trip we didn't have any presentation. Heck, they had already "disposed" of our MBs. I have idea what that means other than we arrived after midnight and they had already removed the previous days bands and replaced them with the current date. So not only did we have zero presentation - we also didn't have personalized bands. I had ordered the Grey Band of Shame for myself but I wanted to surprise my DD with the new purple band and it wasn't there.

Not a vacation make or break by any stretch. Just a little disappointing.

DISCLAIMER: as I haven't heard of any other dissers with the same experience as us by arriving after midnight, please note this is probably NOT normal practice. I do not want to start an internet brouhaha based on a one time experience.

I really liked the original MB box, I still have the two we received and I use them to hold mementos of the trip that don't fit in the scrapbooks I make of each trip. But not too fussed over the new box.

The old packaging was only a waste to someone not presenting the bands as a gift. For me, it was very useful. I was very upset when I opened our new bands in January, tearing the packaging up terribly because the perforations weren't complete, only to discover there was no other box inside to wrap and give to the kids. When you are paying so much money for the vacation, it's not unreasonable to expect there to be a formal box included, especially when there was before. They should at the very least include a message on the new packaging to indicate that THIS is the only box included for anyone intending to present them later. I'm surprised at how many posters are claiming a simple box would be a "waste". It's not a waste if it has value to the person using it.

The new box is like half the depth (front to back, not too to bottom) of the old box. Anyone expecting the old box could see that it's not the same.

I'm not crazy about the bands but that's unacceptable. It's not "tomorrow" until 6am for hotels. And even then, they generally do hold the room (especially if we contact them) so come in, hold the bands.

I was surprised to say the least. It was only 130am and I had completed on-line check in (more to speed things up at that ungodly time of night) stating arrival "after midnight" - I think thats what the option was anyways. :upsidedow

C'est la vie

I agree. I know this is a Disney fan forum and most of us on here look into the details a lot more than the average guest, but at some point things just have to be put into perspective. :upsidedow

Yes! I look at it as them even mailing them to those of us in the US is a little perk they don't HAVE to do. They could very easily make all of us pick them up at the desk when we arrive. It's a bonus and a nice treat - but it is not a requirement for me.

Interesting. When our 2.0 versions of the bands came, they were in the Incredibles box which was inside of the brown mailing box. We did a split stay in January and our first set of bands were the old version and the 2nd set the 2.0 version of the bands. I wore both on the trip, but after the first day or so found myself preferring the 2.0 version and the feel of it, so I ended up wearing that the rest of the trip.
