NEW Magic bands.. any update on them?

Under magic bands on our reservation it says..

“Starting later in 2021, we plan to unveil an innovative new offering as part of the My Disney Experience app that will bring features of a MagicBand to your smart devices.’

has this happened yet?

Nope, not yet.

I held out as long as I could before getting MagicBands for my trip (which is in two days), just in case MagicBand+ got released. It did not. I ordered regular ones last week and received them.

Disney hasn't offered any news about them lately either.

From that description, it sounds like you are talking about Magic Mobile, which came out last year. MagicBand+, which is an improved MagicBand, is not yet available.
