Cool, we got a few takers on pop up video, now anybody going to admit remembering the actual start of MTV? "I want my MTV!"
"Video Killed the Radio Star" Baby! I remember. I remember before MTV when we had to rely on Friday Night Videos to get our video fix!

Pop!

Yes, I do remember that, but we also had the ability to turn that video off and not have to hear it every single time.

I so remember that show! I loved it.

But then, I never had cable at my parents house. :( So I was stuck with only that show for my videos for a long time.

i too remember (and LOVED) pop-up video! but alas, i am not quite old enough to have even been alive at teh start of MTV, having been born in 1984... the day Michael Jackson's hair caught fire filming the Pepsi commercial, in fact ;)

as to the actual topic of this thread... seeing as how i almost always have the sound turned off on my computer, i dont get so annoyed at the *popping* of Haley and Jake talking.

I remember before MVTV, and I remember before cable.
That's right, when I was a kid we only had 3 tv channels and no remote control at all. The first tv I remember us having was black and white. After we got a color tv I was amazed to see Wizard of Oz in color.

I was a teenager when cable came to our town and my parents refused to get it. They were not going to pay for tv when it was free. It took about 5 years of begging from my sister and I for them to agress to cable and it had about 10 extra channels.

PS: there was no internet or personal computers then either. :lmao:
If you wanted to "play a game" with someone you had to go outside and get the neighbor kids to play kickball with you, or red rover.

The question is: does anyone remember Friday "Midnight Special"

Ok what is this pop up video everyone is talking about?? I'm kinda lost here. Make that very lost.

Wow... has it been that long since pop up video ended? I thought it had only been a couple years.

Pop up video was a show on VH1 that showed music videos, but during the video, little facts and trivia about the musician in the video or the video itself would "pop up" on the screen in little bubbles (sort of like the VMK speech bubbles).

Haley and Jake scare me. A lot. They don't capatalize the first letter of their sentences and yet they capatalize everything related to Disney... Typical.

Excuse me while I get my cane and put in my dentures. Oh yeah, and my hearing aid. Those of us born in the early 80s can't be without those nowadays!

LOL :rotfl: If you're already using a cane, dentures and hearing aid, what about us born in the early 70s? What do we get? A walker and spoon-fed soup? :rotfl2:

Ok. . well I'm not old like the rest of you. No offense.
I prefer the term well seasoned thank you very much! :thumbsup2
Believe me, you'll catch up before you know it! :rotfl:

Sorry I totally took this thread so OFF topic. :rotfl2: But before it steers back.. yes I remember Midnight Special, I was going there next! I saw an infomercial on tv for a DVD set of Midnight Special the other day. Very good stuff.

~Now returning all you younger readers to the Haley and Jake Show.~

Wow, I didn't know being 23 qualified me for Social Security benefits and senior citizen discounts. ;) I sure could use the extra money. :rotfl2:

This is totally off topic but they did a pop up video type of thing to the original Thunderbirds shows on the Sci-Fi channel a few years ago. They didn't have things pop up to cover the scene though, that would have inhaled through a straw. Instead, the factoids appeared at the bottom of the screen. It was totally awesome! I watched EVERY episode!

Haha, I love where this topic is going....

I used to love Pop-Up Video (especially the catchy theme song. Hehe). It was the only thing I watched on VH1. Yeesh, has it really been that long since it was off the air?

I was born the year MTV debuted...but heck I don't think we even had cable in our house till the early-mid 90s. Either way, MTV was never really my thing.

Somebody please turn off that awful racket on the VMK website!
