I am looking at getting a new lens... well asking for one for Christmas and I need to know what the better of the two options is..

Nikon - Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 AF Lens

or

Nikon - AF-S DX Nikkor 35mm f/1.8 Lens for Nikon F-Mount Digital SLR Cameras

The price difference is $60. That doesn't matter. I read reviews of both I just don't know what the better option is. This is all very new to me but I know I want one of these two with the f/1.8

I appreciate any help. Thanks :)

Nevermind I just found my answer... the 35 mm seems to be the one I need because I believe the d3000 doesn't have an internal focus motor... a review I just read said to go with the 35mm with my camera

Which camera are you using?

I'm not a nikon guy, but I think one of those will AF with the cameras without the focus moter and one of them won't.

Yes, the 35mm is an excellent lens for the price, tends to be a more preferred focal length over the 50mm, and it will focus on your D3000.

Great choice.

I have this lens 35mm 1.8f and a D3000 and they work great together. You are correct that the D3000 does not have an internal focus motor, you still can manual focus the 50

Perfect! Thanks! I have it on the list to give my husband for xmas ideas lol I copy and pasted the exact name of it so he can't possibly get confused.
