I need to buy a new laptop.... I only want to spend about $1000. I keep looking but they all look the same... AHHH! Any suggestions on good deals... been looking at a compaq but can't find any sales.

I just bought a new lap top from Dell, but it was around 1900.

I have had a good experience with dell computers.

I have a Gateway that I have had for almost two years now and love it. I'm not sure what type of specs your looking for but I just saw one on www.gateway.com for 799.00 and an upgraded one that was 999.00 marked down to 899.00. Again, I'm not sure what specs your looking for.

I was at Sams and saw a nice Compaq laptop for $999. It all really depends on what you want.

This one had a 40gig drive, built in wireless G, 15" tft screen, CDRW/DVDROM combo, 512 meg, and I think a Centrino 1.8ghz. I forget what the processor really was.

Compaq is a good name, as is Dell and IBM. In contrast to what another poster said, I've heard bad things about gateway laptops. Like most others, when they work they work well, but when something goes wrong...:earseek:

Good luck!

I bought a Averatec from Best Buy for $849.00 with a $250 mail in rebate back in May. It's a smaller company but I LOVE my laptop! My only complaint is the keyboard, which I cannot get used to on any laptop so I added a separate one. It's small, compact and best of all, plays DVDs! I've taken it to Orlando 4 times with no problems and would recommend it to anyone!

I've had extremely bad experiences with Gateways. I do not recommend their computers in any way, shape or form. Not only have we had two bad computers, we've had extremely bad customer service.

Anyway... We have a Dell refurbished laptop.

We could search for exactly what we wanted (DVD player, no CDR, big screen, etc) and the machine was about $750 cheaper than buying new. And it's worked wonderfully. Ours was $1200, but we got good video cards and a super fast processor so DH could play games.

stay away from Dell, they still make decent products but you WILL get burned on their support and customer service.

I have a 3200 dollar paperweight because the motherboard burnt out and they won't cover it under my 5 year warranty.

Sony Vaio or Compaq may be your only decent choices or even Toshiba
