New Laminate floor - how do I clean it?

I don't know what brand or anything mine is, but mine came shiny... ? When it gets "dull" it doesn't look right. Mine isn't like polished shiny like a waxed floor or anything, but it is certainly shiny. Instructions for mine were for a damp mop as well - but also said no soap (like dish soap). Basically I just put a little of the Orange Glo on the mop and spread it out.

My point was that you can't make it "shinier" than it was when new. I always used water and a damp, not wet mop. You can't turn make a laminate floor that was never shiny, shiny. I had a neighbor try that. She couldn't understand why it wouldn't get shinier. The surface of the floor is what it is and you aren't supposed to use wax or anything like that on it. That's all I was saying. Some finishes are shiny, but using chemical cleaners on it will make it dull, not shiny. There's a reason the directions say damp mop.

We not only have two young boys, but a 120 pound Newfoundland that live in our house. My biggest battle is dog hair, with mud and muck coming in closely behind.

As a former Newfie owner, I'd have to say, don't forget the slobber! :)

I use a dry swiffer with my own rags on it, and a spray bottle with a 50/50 vinegar water blend. I spritz the floor and mop. Once the rag gets pretty wet I can wait to spritz for a bit. Wherever I start on the room is usually dry by the time I get to the other side.

I refuse to use any chemicals on my floors because we have three cats. My floors are real wood, but sealed, and after five years of cleaning the floor like this they still look fabulous.

(I have no idea what the previous owners used, or how long ago our floors were refinished, but they look terrific.)
