New Kitchen or stay at a Deluxe Resort?

Would you rather spend money on a new / update kitchen or stay 10 days at a Deluxe Resort?
Depends how badly your kitchen needs an upgrade? You use your kitchen everyday. I would choose the kitchen. However, you could look for a great deal on a deluxe resort (may be able to find one now due to COVID cancellations) and split the money between the kitchen upgrade and the vacation. That way maybe you could have a little of both.

The kitchen upgrade is a better financial decision. Updating the kitchen adds value and potential equity to your home. Its an investment and something you can enjoy and take pride in for years to come, assuming you plan to stay at the house. A stay at a deluxe resort is a luxury and its just a blip in time - maybe 7 days or a little longer if you're lucky. But then you go home and everything is back to normal as if it never happened. Sure you'll have a great time and wonderful memories, but that's it. You're paying thousands for a week of enjoyment, when you could otherwise pay thousands for years of enjoyment and a potential return on your investment.

Why not upgrade the kitchen and stay at a value resort?

I would go with the kitchen. I had a similar decision this summer debating between a DVC member cruise of a whole house generator. After spending several days with no electricity due to a hurricane which also means no water either since I have a well which requires electricity to work I decided the best choice was the generator.

You can get a whole new kitchen for the cost of 10 days in a deluxe resort? Is it a kid's play kitchen?

MTE, a full kitchen reno is probably 10X the cost of 10 days in a deluxe resort. I would still do the kitchen though. Disney deluxe is faux deluxe.

That's what I thought. As a lifelong renter, I've never renovated anything in a home, but I've watched plenty of HGTV and kitchen renovations always cost upwards of $25,000. For what we spent on our last 10 night Club Level WDW stay, I'd probably only be able to buy a new suite of appliances, but wouldn't be able to touch anything else in the kitchen, renovation wise. And if this is a question of "new kitchen appliances or WDW deluxe stay" I can't even believe it's a serious debate.

I don't have the money for either but if someone came to me and said that I have won either a kitchen remodel or a 10 day stay at a Deluxe Disney Resort figuring in that covid is either over or under the same control that things like common cold, flu, tonselitus, strep throat, ect are as far as risk to the general population to catch and a combination of both treatment and prevention I would honestly have to say that I would rather have the kitchen. This is figuring in that it has been over 10 coming up on 11 years since I have been to Disney.
I can think of plenty of things that need to be redone on my kitchen that were not done to a high quality or even higher than a 1st year high school woodworking shop class standard. No I am not amused at drawers that I have 2 oven mits, 2 pot holders, 3 hot pads, and a double oven mit for taking out large baking dishes from the oven or a rack of flatwear coming apart on me. No it is not over crowded with those items in them the quality is awlful. Let's not even talk about the fact that we were told we would have a pantry and instead got 3 cupboards stacked on either side of the fridge with a cupboard over the top of the fridge. There is plenty of room on the side of this that runs into the wall shared with a small hall that in my opinion they could have 1. Moved the fridge over next to the counter that is on the side of the stove. 2. put in possibly a larger fridge that what will fit in that space. 3. built an actual pantry that could be walked into or at least have a regular door.
Not to even get started on things that I would like to have such as pull out drawers in my cupboards for accessing pots and pans.

New kitchen! I often have regrets when I waste money on a deluxe resort and it doesn't meet expectations for what I expect for the price

I thought you were deciding between a resort room with a new kitchen vs a deluxe resort.....and I was like “nobody NEEDS a fancy kitchen on vacation” haha

New Kitchen hands down. Ours is pretty good but it was what the prior owners or the builder had selected. I am very happy staying at a Moderate .

I somewhat agreee, but it could be close. I completely renovated my kitchen when I was in SC. Floors, countertops, new cabinets, sink, disposal, electrical, everything. It cost $20,000.

But if you take into account 10 days of a deluxe resort, dining, flights, snacks, some possible extras, you're bordering. I would go for the kitchen. It was the nicest thing I ever had and provided me with a lot of happiness. A kitchen can last a lifetime. A vacation, only 10 days.

Kitchen rehabs recover around 70% of there value (expense) in resale. If done right, it can make life easier and more enjoyable for the family. If moving in the near future, you can get more bids to buy your house, as buyers often want up-to-date kitchens

Deluxe trip to WDW is 100% expense, but can create unique family memories that may become more precious in time.

We did a 10 night Club Level stay over 4th of July 2018. Family of 4 with 2 teens. Flew from CA. All in, $12000. Nowhere near $20k.

I had to make a decision similar to that about 8 years ago. A new kitchen or a big dive trip or a new kitchen and a smaller dive trip. Hubby wanted the kitchen (which was just a new stove, microwave, dishwasher and sink) I wanted the dive trip. Hubby won, the only thing I like about the kitchen to this day is the sink, we got a black granite one. I hate the glass top stove, can't keep it clean and we have already had to replace the control board on it (hubby did it). The microwave door broke about 2 years in, it would keep running sometimes after you turned it off, hubby actually broke a part to fix that. The dishwasher doesn't hold as much as the old one did and it's stainless steel on the outside and impossible to keep clean. I should have fought harder for the bigger dive trip.

Definitely a kitchen. You will be using the kitchen all year. Deluxe will last 10 days.

Kitchen, with a Disney theme. Then you are living in a deluxe Disney Kitchen!

Love this idea for a beach/lake house.

To the poster:
DEFINITELY a kitchen!!!!! Holy Cow, you don't go on vacation if your kitchen needs updating!!!

Sorry, I was visualizing a 12,000 vacay, and even that's not gonna do it.
