New Keurig - Plastic Taste

I've had bad experiences with Keurig cocoas. At least with the Green Mountain and Cafe Escapes ones. The Swiss Miss are fine. Dunkin, well my first wasn't great but we'll see what happens when I use the large cup option. What I've started doing is running water through into a normal packet of cocoa. That tastes fine. Not sure what it is but the cocoas always taste a bit off. Which sticks cause I don't drink coffee or tea!

Try the Cafe Escapes 'Mocha'. It is the only one I really like!!!

Wonder if minerals in different public water supplies react differently. Like I said, our water is filtered as it comes out of the tap because of the chlorine taste our supplier adds.

We use filtered water. It actually says in the manual you should use filtered or bottled water.

I had a Keurig replaced and when it arrived everything tasted like burned plastic. I called them up and they shipped me a new one. The new one had no taste so I would call them and let Keurig ship you a new one.

They also had me send the one that tasted like burned plastic back. Usually you just send the insert back so they must be aware of the problem.

Our replacement brewer arrived today. We set it up, but haven't made anything yet. The real test will be tomorrow morning when the water has sat in the reservoir all night.

They were supposed to send packing labels so I could send the old one back to them, but they weren't in the box. Guess I'll have to call again. Has anyone sent one back? How do you drain the water from the inside of the brewer (not the reservoir)? I can hear water in there, but I don't know how to get it out.

How to make a really good cup of cocoa with a Keurig.

I know this completely defeats the purpose of the Keurig, but don't put the cocoa k-cup in the machine. Use the Keurig to add the smallest amount (mine is 3.25oz) of hot water to your mug and then rip off the foil cover on the k-cup and pour the contents in the mug.

If you put the k-cup in the machine a lot of the contents will be left in the cup and wasted. This make for watery, flavorless cocoa. When my box of cocoa k-cups is empty I will not be buying anymore.

If the plastic taste is coming from tha resevoir, try running it through the dishwasher. I usually clean mine this way every couple of months or so. I don't use the heat drying setting though.

We don't use the kcups for cocoa. As you've learned, they are nasty. Blech

The cocoa kcups need to be shaken before you put them in the machine, then you won't get all the powder left in there.

I came to the same conclusion. Even if you shake the k-cup, the result is watery and flavorless. I don't think the k-cup is big enough to hold the amount of product needed for hot chocolate.

I'm on my fourth brewer, all replaced by kuerig under warranty. Don't hesitate to call them if you have problems with your brewer in the future.

Our Keurig has a filter for the water. I took it out and threw it away. The funky taste disappeared. I use purified water and tap if I don't have any bottled on hand. :)

As for cocoa, we prefer the Cafe Escapes Dark Chocolate. It is delicious and doesn't taste watered down. I don't usually care for dark chocolate.

We also like:
Cafe Escapes Cafe Vanilla (medium, lg is too watery)
Cafe Escapes Cafe Mocha
Wolfgang Puck Breakfast in Bed
Green Mountain Nantucket
Green Mountain Hot Apple Cider
Twinings English Breakfast
Donut Shop Decaf
Folgers Black Silk

We do not like:
Cafe Escapes Chai Latte (This was awful and I like chai.)

We would LOVE to find:
Celestial Seasoning Mandarin Orange Spice Tea

Thought I'd mention this in case you weren't aware. If you go online and register your brewer, Keurig will email you a coupon for 2 free boxes when you buy 2 boxes on their website. Shipping is free with the coupon. :)
